Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon La Magnolia – Rooms last summer when I was wandering around Verona, trying to dodge the midday heat – you know, that sticky Italian August vibe where everything feels like it’s melting. It’s tucked away on Via dei Mutilati, just a stone’s throw from Castelvecchio and that gorgeous Ponte Scaligero bridge over the Adige River. Honestly, I almost missed the entrance; it’s on the first floor (that’s the piano nobile here, not ground level like back home), so you buzz in and climb a short flight of stairs – no elevator, which might be a hassle if you’re lugging heavy bags, but it adds to that old-world charm. The address is Via dei Mutilati, 5 int. 2, right in the historical center, and let me tell you, parking is a nightmare in this part of town; I ended up leaving my rental at a garage near Corso Porta Nuova and walking the five minutes over. But once you’re in, it’s like stepping into a cozy Veronese apartment – the owner greeted me with a genuine smile and a quick espresso, chatting about the best gelato spot on Via Mazzini (spoiler: it’s the one with the pistachio that’s not too sweet). The place isn’t flashy, just a solid 3-star setup with an 8.9 rating that feels earned from real travelers, not bots.

What really won me over were the rooms – mine was simple but spotless, with these high ceilings and wooden shutters that let in the morning light just right, filtering out the faint hum of scooters from the street below. It’s quiet at night, surprisingly, even though you’re smack in the centro storico; I mean, you might hear church bells from San Zeno in the distance, but it’s more romantic than annoying. The bed was comfy, with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender – probably from some local soap they use – and there’s a small balcony where I sipped my coffee watching folks head to the Arena for opera nights (it’s only a 10-minute stroll to Piazza Bra, perfect for catching a show without the crowds overwhelming you). Breakfast isn’t included, but they point you to a nearby bakery on Via Roma for fresh cornetti – way better than hotel buffets, trust me. Well, one minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak tourist hours, like when everyone’s uploading their Juliet’s balcony pics, but it sorts itself out. And in busy seasons, like during the Vinitaly wine fair in spring, book early because this place fills up fast with folks who want that authentic feel without breaking the bank.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting – dodging the tour groups on Via Cappello or grabbing aperitivo at a hidden spot near the river – La Magnolia is a gem. It’s not perfect, sure, but that 8.9 rating comes from its heart-of-the-action spot without the noise overload, and those little touches that make you linger. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the shoulder seasons like early fall when the magnolia trees (yeah, the name fits) are blooming and the city’s a bit more yours. You know what? Skip the big chains; this is the real deal for soaking in Verona’s magic.

Reviews

  • Very nice place to stay – Zhan from Germany – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

very friendly host, nice and clean room, good location, very close to the main attractions, and the host allowed me to leave my luggage after checking out. Good value for money

What could be improved: The toilet seat is really too small, and the shower door does not close, but these are only small issues that could be fixed very easily.

  • A fantastic host location and accommodation – Larissa from Australia – 6 July 2025 (10/10)

The host was so welcoming and helpful. The property was spacious and clean. The bathroom was also spacious and whilst across the hall it was no problem. The kitchen was great for making drinks and breakfast. Just outside was a great supermarket. The Piazza Bra and Arena were only minutes away 😊 We like everything about it.💗

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Perfect place to stay in Verona – Anna from Poland – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

    – great location
    – clean & tidy

  • Loved it all! – Svetlana from United States – 1 July 2025 (10/10)

The location is amazing, just steps from the Arena, a grocery store and easy parking on the same block. The room is sparse but very comfortable and super clean . The staff was very helpful in person and via text. And we loved having a kitchen and coffee ready to make in the morning !!!

  • When I come back to Verona, I’ll be here once again! – Fawzi from United States – 24 May 2025 (10/10)

Verrrryy spacious room and bathroom. The bathroom is adjacent but still private. There was also a mini kitchen that we were allowed to use and it was always stocked with little cookies and coffee pods. We were welcomed by Benedetta, who also took the time and care to share some tips on viewing the city and good restaurants to try. The Arena and the main plaza is literally down the street so everything was close to us location wise.

What could be improved: Nothing to add

  • Superb – Mariia from Spain – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

Very good location, right in the middle of city. Clean and tidy, great kitchen with a nice balcony. Comfy bed.

What could be improved: Because the bathrooms are separate – even if you have a single neighbour that comes to sleep a bit late – they are going to wake you up going in and out of it. Jiggling of keys locking up the room and again, when opening up/closing up the bathrom, it is very loud, epsecially if they will not make an effort not to slam it. There is a big gap under the door, so you can hear everything that happens in the corridor.

  • Highly recommend – Anna from United Kingdom – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

    Great locations.

  • Brilliant room and location – Christina from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (10/10)

Brilliant, spacious and clean room, everything I needed and more. The host was really lovely and kind and made me feel at home. The room was large with a separate private bathroom which was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. I had a little balcony too. In the kitchen there were biscuits and tea/coffee. Brilliant location too as I was right in the middle of the city. Highly recommend!!

  • Superb – Ylva from Switzerland – 23 April 2025 (9/10)

The location was incredible and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: It was bit hard to find the entrance, but we managed since the owners replied very quickly to our message.
