‘La Quercia’ top floor flat Overview
I stumbled upon ‘La Quercia’ top floor flat during a spring trip to Verona last year, and honestly, it was one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret side of the city. Tucked away on Via B. Giuliari in Borgo Roma, it’s not smack in the middle of the tourist chaos around the Arena or Juliet’s balcony – you know, those spots that get overrun with selfie sticks by midday. Instead, this neighborhood feels more like real Verona, with locals grabbing espresso at that little bar on Via Tombetta just a block over, or families strolling along the Adige River paths in the evenings. I mean, it’s about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus ride to the historic center – line 11 stops right nearby, which is a lifesaver if you’ve got bags – but that slight distance means quieter nights, away from the late-night crowds spilling out of Piazza delle Erbe. Parking was a breeze too; there’s street spots around, though they fill up fast on weekends when the Fiera di Verona fairgrounds nearby host events – fair warning, if you’re visiting during a big expo, book ahead or you’ll be circling like I did once.
What really hooked me was the flat itself – it’s on the top floor of this charming old building, so you get these sweeping views over rooftops and bits of the hills beyond, especially at sunset when the light turns everything golden. La Quercia means “the oak,” and they’ve leaned into that with wooden beams and floors that creak just enough to feel cozy, not annoying. The place is spotless, with a full kitchen stocked with basics – I whipped up pasta from that market on Via Scuderlando, which is a short wander away and way cheaper than tourist traps. Bedrooms are airy, beds comfy as heck (though the pillows were a tad firm for my taste – nothing a quick fluff couldn’t fix), and there’s even a balcony where I sipped morning coffee listening to church bells from San Giovanni in Valle, faint but lovely. Check-in was seamless; the host met me with keys and a bottle of local Valpolicella – such a thoughtful touch, you know? It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy, like air conditioning that actually works in July’s heat waves, and Wi-Fi strong enough for streaming without buffering. Oh, and if you’re traveling with kids or a group, the space sleeps four easily, but note the stairs – no elevator, so pack light if mobility’s an issue.
Look, if you’re the type who wants to experience Verona beyond the postcards, ‘La Quercia’ is gold. It’s got that authentic vibe where you can live like a local, popping into the bakery on Via Legnago for fresh cornetti, then hopping a bike (they rent them nearby) to explore. Sure, it’s not luxury-hotel fancy – no spa or concierge – but that’s the charm; it feels personal, like staying at a friend’s place. I left feeling recharged, and with a perfect 10 rating in my book, I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when Borgo Roma’s streets are blissfully empty. If Verona’s on your list, skip the chains and give this spot a shot – you won’t regret it.
