Hotel Description

You know, when I first stumbled upon La Terrazza di Aida while wandering through Verona’s historical center, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect—it’s tucked away on this narrow little alley, Vicolo di Sant’Antonio, right off Corso Porta Borsari, which is one of those bustling streets lined with ancient Roman gates and gelato shops that locals swear by. I mean, Verona’s old town can feel like a maze if you’re not paying attention, with all those cobblestone paths twisting around, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season—early October, when the tourist crowds thin out a bit but the weather’s still mild—and check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with keys and a quick rundown in broken English mixed with Italian gestures. No fancy lobby or anything, just a straightforward apartment setup on the upper floor, which suited me fine since I was traveling solo and didn’t need all the bells and whistles of a big hotel. Parking? Well, that’s the tricky part in this part of town—forget about street spots unless you’re lucky; I ended up using a paid garage a few blocks away near the Adige River, which added a short walk but hey, it kept me from circling endlessly like some frustrated drivers I saw.

What really sold me on the place, though, was that terrace—la terrazza, as they call it. It’s not some massive rooftop affair, but a cozy, private spot overlooking the rooftops and snippets of the Verona skyline, with potted plants and a rickety table where I spent evenings sipping cheap Chianti from the nearby enoteca on Via Mazzini. The apartment itself is pretty basic, you know, three-star level with a small kitchenette (stocked with the essentials, though the fridge hummed a bit loudly at night—minor gripe, but earplugs helped), a comfy bed that didn’t creak too much, and a bathroom that was clean but nothing spa-like. Sensory-wise, mornings brought the smell of fresh bread wafting up from the bakery down the vicolo, mixed with the faint chime of church bells from Santa Anastasia nearby—it’s that kind of authentic Verona vibe. And location-wise, you’re steps from the Arena di Verona; I caught an opera there one night and walked back in under 10 minutes, dodging the evening passeggiata crowds on Ponte Pietra. Oh, and if you’re into Romeo and Juliet lore, Casa di Giulietta is just a quick stroll away—touristy, sure, but fun for a laugh. Noise levels? It gets lively in the evenings with folks chatting in the alley below, especially during summer festivals, but it quiets down by midnight, which was perfect for my jet-lagged self.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting—maybe on a budget, since it’s not overpriced like some spots near Piazza delle Erbe—I’d say give La Terrazza di Aida a shot. It’s got that 7.3 rating for a reason: solid, not spectacular, with a few quirks like the occasional spotty Wi-Fi (fine for emails, but don’t expect seamless streaming) and stairs that might challenge if you’ve got heavy luggage. But honestly, waking up to that terrace view, sipping coffee while watching the city stir, made up for it. Verona’s magic is in the details, and this place lets you soak it in without the fuss—perfect for a weekend escape or even a longer stay if you’re exploring the Veneto region. Just pack light and embrace the walkability; you’ll thank me later.

  • Very good – Murray from Australia – 12 June 2023 (8/10)

Getting the code for the locked box wasnt easy we had a number of messages to the host. There was no breakfast we had alot of difficulty with the internet logging on and finally got that fixed on our second last day.

What could be improved: Internet access, easier to get into the property. But the views were lovely and its close to the CBD.
