Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Lady Capulet Apartments almost by accident last spring, when I was wandering through Verona’s historical center after a long train ride from Milan. Tucked away on Vicolo Pallone – this narrow little alley off Via Pallone, you know, the one that snakes right behind the Arena – it’s got that perfect mix of being smack in the middle of everything without feeling touristy. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Arena di Verona, where they do those epic opera nights in summer, but the street itself is quiet, lined with those old stone buildings that smell faintly of damp earth and blooming wisteria in May. Parking’s a bit of a hassle, honestly – the historical center’s no-car zone means you’ll probably have to stash your wheels at the nearby Garage Italia on Via Adigetto and walk the five minutes over, but hey, that’s Verona for you. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a key and a quick rundown in broken English, no fuss, no lobby drama.

What really won me over, though, was how these apartments feel like a secret hideout in Shakespeare’s playground – named after Lady Capulet, of course, which ties into all the Romeo and Juliet vibes around here. My unit was on the second floor (no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing), with high ceilings and these massive windows overlooking a tiny courtyard that catches the morning sun just right. It’s sort of modern-rustic: think sleek kitchenette with a Nespresso machine – perfect for brewing coffee while listening to the distant hum of market chatter from Piazza delle Erbe, about a 10-minute stroll away. The bed was ridiculously comfy, with those crisp white linens that actually smell fresh, not like some hotel starch, and there’s a little balcony where I sat with a glass of Valpolicella watching the sunset turn the rooftops pink. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night – well, except for the occasional scooter zipping by early morning, but that’s authentic Italy, right? I cooked a simple pasta dinner one evening using ingredients from the Mercato di San Zeno, which is just a quick bus ride or 20-minute walk north, and it felt like living like a local. Oh, and the Wi-Fi is solid, which mattered when I was planning day trips to Lake Garda.

Look, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Verona without the chain-hotel sterility – maybe catching a show at the Arena or popping over to Juliet’s House on Via Cappello for that cheesy balcony photo – this place is gold. It’s not flawless; the bathroom’s on the compact side, and summer heat can make the rooms stuffy without cranking the AC, but at a 9.5 rating, it’s earned every bit. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in fall when the crowds thin out and you can hear the church bells echoing clearer. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a piece of the city.

We only had to stay for one night. We really liked it. Wonderful and sincere hostess. She showed us everything, advised us where to go, where to park the car. The apartments themselves were wonderful. Tastefully furnished, all the spaces were used, great bathroom, bedroom, as well as a leisure area. In person it was better than in the photos.
    Very close to the center.
We would love to stay there for a longer period.
