Lion Relais de Charme Verona Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Lion Relais de Charme Verona feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away on the second floor of a historic building. You know what struck me immediately? The intimate scale of this four-star boutique hotel — it’s the kind of place where the staff actually remembers your name by day two. The entrance might be understated, but once you’re inside, there’s this warm, refined atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into someone’s elegant private residence rather than a commercial hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to experience Verona on foot. Via Valerio Catullo sits right in the historical center, which means you’re literally steps away from Juliet’s balcony and the Roman Arena — I mean, you can walk to both in under five minutes. What I love about this spot is that it’s central enough to reach everything easily, but tucked away on a quieter street so you’re not dealing with the constant tourist crowds right outside your window. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having the whole city at your doorstep while still feeling like you have your own private corner of Verona.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort that’s actually harder to pull off than you’d think. The ceilings were high, the furnishings felt carefully chosen rather than just ordered from a catalog, and there were these thoughtful touches — like proper reading lights and enough outlets where you actually need them. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, and the bed was genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable). What really impressed me was the attention to soundproofing — even though you’re in the heart of the city, nights were surprisingly quiet.

Service & Atmosphere

The staff here operates more like a small family business than a typical hotel chain, which creates this really personal experience. They’re genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations — and I mean places locals actually go, not just the obvious tourist spots. The common areas have this relaxed elegance that encourages you to linger over morning coffee or evening wine. There’s no pretension here, just solid hospitality that feels authentic rather than scripted.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you’re someone who values location above almost everything else, this place delivers in spades. You’re paying for that prime real estate in Verona’s historical center, and honestly, it’s worth it when you can walk out your door and be at the Arena or wandering the charming streets within minutes. The combination of the intimate scale, thoughtful service, and that unbeatable location creates something special — it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Verona as a temporary local rather than just another tourist passing through. The high ratings make sense once you’re there.

The apartment was great. Very clean. Beds and pillows super comfortable. The location was perfect. Lots of restaurants and shops near by. Safe area. The kitchen was well appointed but we didn’t cook anything. We stayed for 2 weeks.

What could be improved: It was a ways from parking and I would suggest pulling up to Porta Borsari to drop off your bags as that’s closer than the parking garage. Also, would be helpful to have an entry table for keys etc.

    Clean, modern, excellent location
    Well equipped
Photos don’t do this property justice, it’s lovely and my teen daughters loved it and wanted to stay longer.

Very central location. Very spacious and clean.

Beautiful apartment-style room with an open area living room entry and separate bedroom. Amazingly furnished and in a wonderful location at the heart of the tourist area of Verona!

What could be improved: Make sure to download WhatsApp before going to Italy, and to expect a "Tourist Tax". We went in blind on that front, and were a little taken-aback by this extra cash-only charge.

We have been to Verona many times, always at the Hotel Gabbia D'Oro. That means we are spoiled. This time we liked to stay together, because the visit to the opera was a gift for my mom. So I found the Lion Relais de Charme and booked it. What can I say, it was fantastic, from the first contact it was a pleasure to communicate with Christian, the host. I was worried about the parking, but all no problem, the parking is very after and just behind the arena to find. Very short walk to the beautiful apartment. The decor is phenomenal, modern very styled through and just feel good. Key was given to us on site, communication very quickly via WhatsApp. You sort of fall out of the apartment door into the Centrum. To the arena 2 min. The 3rd sleeping option was super, a sofa bed with very good mattress, everything nicely and cleanly prepared. There are 2 rooms, so we could also sleep undisturbed. Special mention is the full fridge with wine and drinks and snacks and all at very fair prices. Christian and Marina, we will be back! Thank you for this great stay!

This was a really lovely apartment in a fantastic location to visit Verona! Our two children (aged 11 & 12) loved it here too!

Christian, the host, was friendly and welcoming and met us upon arrival with the key and showed us around the apartment and gave us some info on restaurants and taxis.

The beds and pillows were really comfortable.

It was very clean with plenty of towels and an iron & hairdryer.

    The air conditioning worked well.

    Wifi & Netflix.

What could be improved: Some really small details but a second mirror, a tea towel and a larger kitchen bin would all be useful.

Just be aware there isn't an oven, just a hob. It didn't matter to us as we didn't cook there but something to bear in mind.
