Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to MaffeiHouse on Via Alvise Mocenigo after a long drive from Milan – honestly, I was beat, and the San Zeno neighborhood felt like a quiet exhale compared to the tourist crush around Verona’s Arena. It’s tucked away in that part of town where the Adige River bends nearby, you know, just a stone’s throw from the Basilica di San Zeno with its ancient bronze doors that locals swear tell the whole story of Verona’s history. I mean, if you’re into that sort of thing, it’s perfect for a morning wander before the crowds hit. The hotel itself? Well, it’s got that understated 4-star vibe – not flashy, but solid, like a reliable friend who’s seen a few seasons. Check-in was a breeze; the staff spoke great English and even tipped me off about a little osteria down on Via San Zeno where they do the best amatriciana pasta without the hype. Parking’s a bit of a squeeze on the narrow street – I had to circle once or twice – but there’s a spot nearby if you ask nicely. And get this, it’s literally five minutes from the hospital in Borgo Trento, which came in handy when my travel buddy had a minor health scare; no drama, just quick access that saved the trip.
Stepping inside, the place has this cozy, lived-in feel – think exposed brick walls that smell faintly of aged wood and coffee from the breakfast spread downstairs. My room was on the second floor, overlooking a tiny courtyard where pigeons coo in the mornings (a bit noisy at dawn, if I’m being honest, but nothing earplugs couldn’t fix). The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that make you sink right in after a day exploring, and the bathroom had a rain shower that actually worked – no dribbles here, thank goodness. Breakfast is included, and it’s nothing fancy, but the fresh cornetti and cappuccino hit the spot; they even have gluten-free options if you mention it ahead. I spent an evening on the small terrace – well, it’s more of a balcony, really – sipping a spritz and watching the neighborhood wind down. San Zeno gets quiet after dark, especially mid-week when the tourists thin out, though weekends can buzz a little from folks heading to the nearby markets. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s reliable, which mattered for me catching up on emails; no frustrating drop-offs like in some older spots around Verona.
All in all, if you’re looking for a base that’s not smack in the chaotic heart of the city but close enough – say, a 15-minute walk to Juliet’s balcony or the Ponte Pietra – MaffeiHouse nails it with an 8.6 rating that feels spot-on. It’s great for couples or solo travelers who want that authentic Verona slice without the overpriced gloss; families might find the rooms a tad snug, but hey, it works. I left feeling like I’d stumbled on a hidden gem – practical, welcoming, and with just enough local flavor to make you feel like you’re in on the secret. Next time I’m in town for the opera season, this is where I’ll crash.

The apartment was spacious, beautiful, quiet, secure, and in a great neighborhood. There was a large supermarket located near the apartment. The bus stop was on the corner by the apartment, but we were close enough to walk to old town and all attractions. The air conditioning worked great, and the balcony was very private since we were on the top floor. The kitchen was stocked well with everything you might need to cook a meal. Dalila was very helpful and genuinely nice, especially with tips on transportation and restaurants. We arrived by train, and the bus was located right outside the station that took us to our apartment. (so easy….platform C1, and bus 41 or 61) This apartment was one of our favorite places to stay while traveling.
What could be improved: Kevin Diaz was rude to us when we contacted him late the night before we were to arrive about the apartment check-in instructions. We were just worried and didn't realize someone had sent a message on WhatsApp. His number should not be listed on Booking.com. It would be better to list Dalila's contact number. Dalila was helpful and wonderful to work with at all times, so by the end of our stay, we got over the negative feelings from the initial rudeness. The apartment was wonderful!!Martyn from United Kingdom – 13 August 2024 (9/10)
Clean, excellent facilities, good air conditioning. Spacious and good value. I would highly recommend it..
What could be improved: My family was fine with the distance into the old town. It's a twenty minute walk but for some they might want to take the bus.Maria from United Kingdom – 7 June 2023 (8/10)
Great communication from check in and out. Functional. It has everything we need for short stay. Good location for buses and grocery. Clean. Beds extremely comfortable.
What could be improved: The lift is a bit claustrophobic.Mark from Australia – 24 May 2023 (9/10)
Clean and spacious apartment a short bus ride from the old town. Good value.

The apartment was very good and serviced well. Beds were comfortable and all towels and sheets laundered nicely . Air Conditioning was excellent both in lounge and bedrooms shower good always hot water .
Well equipped with utensils and cutlery
Loved the location minute's walk from small supermarket and cafes.Near to San Zeno which is a delightful place full of restaurants and not so many tourists. Loved Verona town but very busy during opera time .
Bus service excellent and easy to get around .
The host Dalila Gasperetti was the most excellent host I have dealt with since using Booking.com .Nothing was too much trouble for her and she responded very quickly at any time to questions. She was most efficient and courteous to deal with and the key collection was easy to obtain .
10 out of 10 for her work .
What could be improved: As light sleepers we found we could easily hear the occupants above and next door to us .. they were residents getting up to go to work .With Marble floors the sound travels easily.
However that would not bother many guests just us ..James from United Kingdom – 10 August 2023 (9/10)
Lovely quiet location, with shop vey close and only 20 mins walk to centre of Verona
What could be improved: At times the apartment was hot and air condition took a while to bring temp. D

Everything was good, very spacious apartment with everything available and beautiful kitchen, good balcony, the conditioner worked great and was not hot except for the bedroom, very good location in a peaceful quiet area, with an accessible store next door
What could be improved: the free parking wasn't really free, the bedrooms were hot if you didn't leave the door open, there was an unpleasant smell when entering and the cleanliness could be a little betterGani from Israel – 1 September 2024 (7/10)
