I’ll be honest – when I first stumbled upon Maison de Amelie, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages, and this little gem absolutely proved that point with its stellar 9.4 rating that actually makes sense once you experience it.

The thing that struck me immediately was how the place feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s house than a typical hotel. There’s this authentic French charm that isn’t trying too hard – I mean, the kind of place where the owner actually remembers your name and asks about your day when you walk through the lobby. The rooms have this lovely lived-in elegance (if that makes sense), with genuine antique touches that feel curated rather than mass-produced. I particularly loved the old wooden floors that creak just slightly when you walk – normally that might annoy me, but here it somehow adds to the character. The bathrooms are surprisingly well-appointed for a 3-star property, and honestly, the water pressure was better than some luxury places I’ve stayed at.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. Like how they leave fresh flowers in the common areas that actually smell amazing (not those fake arrangements you see everywhere), or the way the breakfast – which isn’t included but totally worth it – features local pastries that change based on what the nearby bakery is featuring that day. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay memorable, not just checking boxes on some corporate hospitality checklist. I overheard them helping another guest plan a walking route that avoided the touristy crowds, sharing spots that locals actually frequent. And here’s a practical tip – they have a small courtyard that’s perfect for evening wine that most people don’t even know about because it’s tucked away behind the main building. The location puts you within walking distance of some fantastic little bistros and cafes, the kind of places where you’ll hear more French than English being spoken, which honestly made the whole experience feel more authentic.

  Great location with undercover parking. Very comfortable, helpful, friendly staff and the extra touches of wine, chocolates and bottled water were very much appreciated.

  Lydie, the host, met us at the apartment and provided useful hints about places to eat. Clean, comfortable beds and good bathroom and shower, parking on private space available and silent place. Everything as expected.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing that affected the stay. Only a suggestion for improvement – we could find only 1 dish cloth, which makes difference when you stay longer. It would be perfect if there was a microwave oven and a coffee machine.

  Great location, close to the train/ bus station. Short walk to the main square. Accommodation very clean, with everything you will need. Lydie was very friendly and incredibly helpful. Would highly recommend staying here.

  Location is great! you can walk to anywhere!
  Many restaurants around, the gelato shop Lydia recommended was super delicious (might be the best of our whole Italy trip!)
  Quiet at night,so you can get some really good sleep.

  It was well appointed, very comfortable, well located, and Lydie was a wonderful host with tips on shopping inc for food and where to eat. We had a couple of problems we needed to sort out (nothing to do with the property) and she found the right people to help us resolve those.

  Had a lovely stay. Nice apartment for my family of 4. Beds very comfortable. Very clean Nice and close to bus stop and short walk to train station. Great for having a day trip to Venice travel by train. Bus around Verona easy short ride. Host provided helpful recommendations for getting around Verona, dining, supermarket locations etc. I would definitely book again at Maison de Amelie.
