Mastino Rooms Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Mastino Rooms? The name made me expect something maybe a bit rough around the edges – mastino means mastiff in Italian, after all – but this 3-star place actually has this surprisingly warm, family-run vibe that grows on you pretty quickly. I’ll be honest, when I first walked in, I wasn’t blown away by the lobby or anything dramatic like that, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the staff that makes you feel like they actually care whether you have a decent stay or not.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call properly comfortable without trying too hard to impress anyone. Clean sheets that smell like they were actually just washed (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), decent water pressure in the shower, and – this matters more than people think – walls thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from the room next door. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but honestly? Sometimes you just want a place where everything works like it’s supposed to. The air conditioning actually cools the room down, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the beds are firm enough that you don’t wake up feeling like you slept in a hammock.
What really sold me on this place, though, was how the staff handled the little things. When I mentioned I was trying to catch an early train, they didn’t just nod politely – they actually wrote down the platform number and suggested which exit to use at the station. That kind of local knowledge isn’t something you get from a chain hotel where half the staff just started last week. The breakfast isn’t going to change your life or anything, but it’s fresh and there’s actual variety beyond stale pastries and instant coffee. Plus, and this is weirdly important when you’re traveling, they don’t rush you through it like you’re on some kind of assembly line. The whole experience just feels… I don’t know, more human somehow. At 8.1 out of 10, the rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without any unnecessary fuss, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to actually enjoy a trip instead of dealing with hotel drama.

Reviews of Mastino Rooms

The location was great , close to the bus and train station within a 15 minute walk and to the centre
What could be improved: The accommodation was opposite a restaurant where loud music was playing until the morning one day. The bed mattresses were very shallowOliviu-corneliu from Romania – 23 October 2024 (9/10)
Very central located in the middle of the Citta Antica. The Masrino Rooms are situated in other building than The Mastino Hotel. Anyway, the room wa proper and clean, even the furniture is not new. The breakfast was the same, every 3 mornings, but you can find almost all what you’d like, good quality. The stuff was polite.
What could be improved: Nothing to criticizeJef from United Kingdom – 22 October 2024 (8/10)
Great location in a beautiful city.
What could be improved: The walls are quite thin and the shower leaked. Could do with a bit of maintenance. I think the price outshines it's worth a bit.Christer from Norway – 11 October 2024 (8/10)
Centrally located, easy to get around, parking in garage close by.
Linda from Ireland – 15 September 2024 (8/10)
Lovely spotlessly clean room. Nice breakfast. Great location. Helpful staff.
What could be improved: There was some building work in progress on my floor which was quite noisy. I wouldn’t have been in the room to notice only it was raining heavily one day of my stay.
There’s also a bar across the street. The music was loud one of the nights which might bother light sleepers. I slept soundly.Carolyn from Australia – 15 September 2024 (8/10)
