Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to the Mercante In Fiera on Via Roveggia, I wasn’t sure what to expect—it’s tucked away in that southern part of Verona, right near the fairgrounds where all those big trade shows happen, like Vinitaly in the spring. Honestly, it’s not smack in the historic center with the Arena and all that Romeo and Juliet romance, but that’s kind of the charm if you’re looking to escape the tourist crush. I mean, after a day dodging crowds around Piazza delle Erbe, coming back here felt like a breath of fresh air—literally, with the Adige River just a short stroll away, and you can hear the faint hum of the city without it overwhelming you. The building itself has this modern vibe, sort of sleek and unpretentious, with a facade that blends right into the neighborhood. Parking was a breeze, too—there’s a decent lot out front, which is gold in Italy where spots can vanish faster than gelato on a hot day. Check-in was smooth; the staff were these friendly locals who switched effortlessly to English, and one even tipped me off about a great little trattoria on nearby Viale del Lavoro for authentic polenta—nothing fancy, but the kind of place where families eat on weeknights.
What really won me over, though, was how the place just feels lived-in and thoughtful, you know? My room—on the third floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard—had these super comfy beds with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender (or maybe that was the soap in the bathroom, which was spotless and stocked with those eco-friendly toiletries). It’s a 4-star spot, sure, but it doesn’t scream luxury; it’s more like practical elegance, with free Wi-Fi that actually works without dropping every five minutes, and a breakfast spread in the morning that’s worth waking up for—fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and coffee strong enough to power you through a day at the fair or a hike up to Castel San Pietro for those panoramic views. Well, okay, there was a minor gripe: the area can get a bit noisy during big events at the Fiera, with trucks rumbling by early, but if you time your visit outside peak seasons like autumn for the Marmomacc show, it’s blissfully quiet. I spent one evening wandering down to the river path—it’s maybe a 10-minute walk—and caught this stunning sunset over the water, with the air carrying that earthy, slightly herbal scent from the nearby parks. Oh, and public transport is a lifesaver here; the bus stop right outside zips you to the train station or the center in under 15 minutes, so you’re not isolated at all.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona and want something authentic without the inflated prices of those boutique spots in the old town—think €150-200 a night here versus double that elsewhere—this is your spot. It’s got that real Italian hospitality, where the staff remember your name and chat about the best routes to avoid traffic on the A4 highway if you’re driving in from Milan. I left feeling like I’d found a hidden gem, the kind that makes you rethink staying right in the thick of things. Sure, it’s not perfect—bathrooms could use a tad more counter space—but for value, comfort, and that sense of being in the actual Verona locals know, it’s a solid 9 out of 10 in my book. Next time I’m back for the opera season, this is where I’ll crash.

A lot of space, cosy, towels and shower gel available, Lidl close
Cosy and modern apartment ideal for couples, location not ideal but the price was affordable – Raphael from Australia – 21 May 2025 (10/10)
Outstanding apartment. Newly reformed with brand new furniture and appliances. The bed was very comfy, the kitchen was complete and modern, the bathroom was excellent as well. This is an ideal place for couples. My partner and I were very very happy. Lidl is just across the road.
Considering its price and location, it was a good deal, good value for money.
What could be improved: The apartment is 30 minutes (on foot) away from the train station Porta Nuova, in the opposite direction of the city centre. I think that it explains the discounted price. It was indeed the end of my month-long Eurotrip and we were running out of euros, so my spouse and I did not mind the walk.Quiet location and comfy bed. – Janet from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (9/10)
spacious. good to have backyard to store bikes and sun loungers to relax
flat walk to centre.
close to lidl.
recycle bins close by.
quiet location with comfy bed.
good to get washing done and dried outside.
What could be improved: shower didn't empty quickly.
needed more kitchen equipment – sharp knife, bread knife, more bowls, breadboard.Perfection and comfort, reasonably priced. – James from Italy – 2 May 2025 (10/10)
I go to Verona several times per year. I like to stay in old Verona, but it is not always possible, but I am very familiar with the city so staying in a nearby neighbor is quite fine with me I've stayed in several locations in the "Fiera" area, but this property is really exceptional. It is must 10 minutes by bus from the train station, impeccably clean, spacious, and sunny. It is well appointed from the kitchen to the bedroom to the bath. It has a spacious shower that doesn't "leak" water, which is instantly hot. The neighbor is quiet, and easily reached by buses that can take a visitor to any location — a bus stop is just 100 yards from the door. I stayed in the second floor apartment, which like that on the first, has a private entrance with easily climbed stairs, important as there is no elevator. The apartment includes a large screen smart tv, with Netflix,, Amazon Video and other channels pre-programmed so one can easily connect one's own account for the period of one's stay. The air conditioning unit rapidly cooled the apartment with was warm when I arrived as summer temperatures were beginning to take hold. A Lidl grocery store is a 3 minute walk away. I can't really imagine a better maintained or more comfortable apartment space, though I have enjoyed one or two similar ones during my visits.
What could be improved: There is really nothing one can complain about with this apartment unless one wants to search for some minor issue for "balance". Unnecessary. My only precaution to potential guests without a car is that, although Verona has an exceptional transportation network, if visiting over a weekend or holiday, buses are much less frequent to this neighborhood, so it might be important to take note and plan accordingly. For me, it was not an issue as I am in the city frequently.Exceptional – Carmel from Malta – 10 April 2025 (10/10)
Accomodation was clean and spacious.
What could be improved: Maybe a better parking possibility. But the city pass was very helpfulA place where Elegant meets convenience ! – Moosa from Italy – 28 December 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: Well it was a wonderful accommodation, just can’t complain.Exceptional – Valentyna from Ukraine – 28 October 2024 (10/10)
