Hotel Description

Oh man, stepping into Palazzo Confalonieri da Lisca for the first time – it’s like you’ve wandered straight into one of those old Italian novels, you know? I mean, the place is tucked away on Via Quattro Spade, right in the heart of Verona’s historical center, just a stone’s throw from that bustling stretch of Via Mazzini where everyone grabs their morning espresso or window-shops for leather goods. I arrived in the late afternoon last summer, dodging the usual tourist crowds spilling out from Piazza delle Erbe, and honestly, finding the entrance felt like discovering a secret – no flashy signs, just this elegant 18th-century facade with wrought-iron balconies that whisper stories of Verona’s past. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – a mix of locals who actually know the city inside out – handed over my key with a quick tip about avoiding the peak dinner rush at the nearby osterias. And parking? Well, forget about it if you’re driving; the historical center’s a nightmare for cars, but they sorted a spot in a partnered garage a couple blocks away on Via Cappello – saved me from circling for ages.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it blends that old-world charm with just enough modern comfort to make you feel pampered without it being over-the-top. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard – think exposed brick walls that feel cool and textured under your fingers, and these massive wooden beams overhead that creak ever so slightly, like the building’s sharing its history. The bed was ridiculously comfy, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent or something), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger way too long. Breakfast is served in this sunlit atrium – fresh croissants, prosciutto from the market down the street, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake you for a full day of exploring. It’s not perfect, mind you; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms (I had to move to the lounge for a video call once), and if you’re not a fan of stairs, note that the elevator’s on the smaller side – but hey, it adds to the authentic palazzo vibe. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night; you might hear distant church bells from Santa Anastasia or the occasional scooter zipping by, but nothing that disrupts sleep, especially off-season when Verona quiets down after the opera crowds at the Arena thin out.

Look, if you’re heading to Verona for that romantic Shakespearean fix – Juliet’s balcony is literally a five-minute stroll away – or just to soak in the city’s vibe without the chain-hotel sterility, this is your spot. I’ve stayed in a few places around here, from the glitzy spots near the river to budget digs on the outskirts, but Palazzo Confalonieri da Lisca nails that sweet balance of history and heart. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with the owner about the best hidden gelateria on Via Stella (try the pistachio, trust me), and by the time you leave, you feel like you’ve actually lived a slice of Verona life. Worth every euro, especially if you book during the shoulder seasons like early fall when the air’s crisp and the tourists aren’t swarming.

Centrally located and fully renovated. It was a pleasure to be in this property. The furniture and appliances are new. The decor is nice and they pay attention to details from the lighting to the coffee capsules. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and clean. The building per se has been renovated too. This property was a really nice find.

Stunning building, extremely clean, great bathrooms & perfect location to explore Verona. On a busy pedestrianised street so a little noisy on a Saturday night but not a big deal overall.

  • Charlotte from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (10/10)

Perfect location close to the piazzas and shops, close enough to the station (25 minute walk) but also a taxi was only €12 if you have suitcases & luggage. The apartment was absolutely beautiful, super modern & exceptionally clean. Lovely touches including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and tea and coffee facilities. Massive thank you to our super helpful host who was easily contacted via watsapp and helped us with our bags & arranging a taxi when we checked out. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Verona.

What could be improved: Nothing – it was perfect!

  • Ecaterina from Moldova – 19 March 2025 (10/10)

We liked everything about its location and the apartment itself. You have all that you need around, even local store with food. All facilities in the apartment work and are more than enough.

What could be improved: The only thing was that sofa for our kids was way too high, but in case you travel without kids, that would even not noticed.
