Palazzo Ponte Pietra Overview

You know what struck me first about Palazzo Ponte Pietra? The name itself tells you everything – this three-star gem sits right in the heart of Verona’s historic center, practically breathing distance from the ancient Roman bridge it’s named after. I mean, when you can literally walk out the front door and be at one of the city’s most iconic landmarks in about thirty seconds, that’s something special.

The building has that authentic Italian palazzo feel – none of that glossy chain hotel vibe, but rather the kind of place where the marble floors have actual history worn into them. Don’t expect modern luxury here; this is more about charm and location than thread counts and spa services. The rooms are honestly a bit traditional (some might say dated), but they’re clean and comfortable enough, and the 8.3 rating speaks to the fact that most people get what they came for. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – ask them about the best osteria nearby and they’ll point you toward places the tour groups haven’t discovered yet.

What really sells this place, though, is how it puts you right in the thick of medieval Verona without the tourist trap pricing of some of the fancier spots. You’re a five-minute walk from Juliet’s balcony (if that’s your thing), but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of narrow cobblestone streets where locals still do their daily shopping. I loved stepping out in the early morning when the light hits those old stone buildings just right, and the only sounds are shopkeepers hosing down their storefronts and maybe a delivery truck rumbling over the ancient stones. The Adige River is right there too – perfect for an evening stroll when the summer heat finally breaks. Sure, being this central means you’ll hear some street noise, especially on weekend evenings when the piazzas come alive, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re not here to hide away in some sterile business hotel – you’re here to feel like you’re actually living in this incredible city, even if it’s just for a few nights.

Reviews of Palazzo Ponte Pietra

  • Eloise from Australia – 1 January 2025 (8/10)

The owner was super efficient and helpful with instructions for self checkin. The location of the apartment was excellent close to ponte pietra and old verona.

What could be improved: There is a security light over the bed that means you need to bring a sleep mask.

  • Phillip from United Kingdom – 28 June 2024 (9/10)

    Clean and tidy, great shower.

What could be improved: Smaller than expected.

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 11 September 2023 (9/10)

The location was perfect and very clean 😊

What could be improved: The only thing I would say is the Wardrobe was in the bathroom, a little strange and you couldn’t get a taxi at all…which is obviously not the property’s fault. If you want a taxi you need to walk to the train station which is about a 35-40 min walk from the property.
All in all great value for money 😊

  • Milena from Ireland – 25 June 2023 (9/10)

Veronica was the most amazing host, and did her best to accommodate our asks whenever she could, making our stay there as smooth as it could be.

  • Farhat from United Kingdom – 17 June 2023 (9/10)

The location was amazing. it’s very close to the river and many historic sites. The funicular is literally on the doorstep and it takes you up to the most amazing views of Verona. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable.

  • Peidi from Germany – 11 June 2023 (7/10)

great location with free public parking nearby, just note the parking has a lot of pot holes and there is more space if you drive to the back

  • Katherine from Italy – 5 November 2022 (8/10)

Self-check-in was really easy. The location was close to the centre. The room was a good size and the bed was AMAZING. It was really comfortable and the bedding was super warm.

What could be improved: The shower was leaking, so it sprayed onto the floor but nothing some towels didn’t dry up.

  • Johnson from United Kingdom – 21 September 2022 (9/10)

right next to the river and bridge into the city of Verona

  • Sebastian from Sweden – 11 August 2022 (8/10)

    perfect location to explore Verona

What could be improved: the air conditioner seemed to work only in combination with a motion detector on the ceiling which meant that the air conditioner turned off while sleeping (no movement). that was rather inconvenient on a hot summer night

  • Mercedes from Netherlands – 27 July 2022 (7/10)

great location. stayed one night and it was perfect.
