You know, I stumbled upon Palazzo Reggiani – Lorenzo De Medici almost by accident last summer when I was wandering through Verona’s historical center – I mean, I’d just come from grabbing a gelato at that little spot on Via Mazzini, and suddenly there it was on Via Filippini, this unassuming yet elegant old palazzo tucked away from the main tourist drag. It’s right in the heart of things, just a short stroll from the Arena di Verona – you can actually hear the faint echoes of opera rehearsals in the evenings if you listen closely, especially during the summer festival season when the place buzzes with energy. Arriving around dusk, the stone facade glowed under those warm Italian street lamps, and honestly, it felt like stepping back in time without any of the cheesiness you sometimes get in historic spots. Check-in was a breeze; the owner – Lorenzo, I think? – greeted me like an old friend, chatting about the building’s Medici connections (apparently it dates back centuries, with some original frescoes hidden in the hallways). No big lobby fuss, just a cozy reception area with that faint scent of aged wood and fresh linen that makes you feel instantly at home.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling – like the rooms, which are spacious and surprisingly modern inside, with these massive windows overlooking quiet courtyards where birds chirp in the mornings. I stayed in one on the second floor (no elevator, mind you, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing), and the bed was one of those plush, sink-right-in kinds that had me sleeping like a baby despite the occasional scooter zipping by on the cobblestones below. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty during peak hours when everyone’s streaming, but hey, you’re in Verona, go people-watch at Piazza delle Erbe instead, which is literally five minutes away on foot. And speaking of practicalities, parking’s a nightmare in the center (as it is everywhere in Italy, right?), so I ditched the car at a lot near the river Adige and walked over; totally worth it for the location. The breakfast spread was a highlight too – fresh croissants, local cheeses, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead, served in a sunny atrium that smells like blooming jasmine in July. Oh, and if you’re there in off-season, like early spring, it’s blissfully quiet, no crowds jostling outside your window.

All in all, if you’re heading to Verona for the romance – you know, Juliet’s balcony is just around the corner on Via Cappello, and it’s way less gimmicky than you’d think – this place is a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy, and with a 9.8 rating, it’s no surprise folks rave about it. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those lazy afternoons sipping Aperol on the nearby terraces. Just remember to book ahead during opera season; it fills up fast, and you don’t want to miss out on that authentic slice of Veronese life.

  The apartment was in a great location and only a short walk to parking as you are not allowed to park inside the city. Our host was fantastic and was in constant communication with us leading up to our stay. The host and his family were very hospitable and friendly and helpful. The apartment was absolutely bespoke and beautiful. Clean and comfortable. This was our favourite accommodation of our two trip around italy. We loved it so much we re-booked another night in Verona a lovely town.

  We have stayed in Verona a few times now but this must be one of the most beautiful apartments we have ever seen. Amazing location, incredibly spacious, stunning architecture and decor and so easy to park our car. Our hosts provided snacks and our fridge was stocked with drinks including a special bottle of exclusive Prosecco. Giovanni, our host was fabulous. He was extremely kind and courteous and available anytime to assist us. We highly recommend staying here!
