Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Pepita Lodge on Corso Porta Nuova – you know, that bustling stretch right after you cross from the train station side of town – and thinking, wow, this place nails that sweet spot between Verona’s old-world charm and something a bit more modern. It’s tucked into the historical center, but not so deep in the twisty alleys that you’re wrestling with your luggage over cobblestones for ages. Honestly, I was beat after a day trip from Venice, and the check-in was a breeze – the front desk guy (Marco, I think his name was) cracked a joke about the summer crowds at the Arena and had me sorted in under five minutes. No fuss, no endless forms; just a quick chat and a key card. The lobby’s got this cozy vibe, with exposed brick walls that smell faintly of aged wood and fresh espresso from the little bar area – it sort of reminds you you’re in Italy without trying too hard.

What really stuck with me about Pepita is how it feels like a hidden gem amid all the tourist hustle. The rooms aren’t massive – mine was on the third floor, overlooking the corso, so yeah, there’s a bit of street noise in the evenings when folks are heading to dinner spots like those trattorias on Via Mazzini, just a five-minute stroll away. But the bed? Super comfy, with those crisp white linens that actually feel luxurious, not stiff like some places. I mean, after wandering around Juliet’s balcony (which is overrated, if you ask me – skip the crowds and hit Piazza delle Erbe instead for better people-watching), coming back to a spotless bathroom with rain showerheads was a godsend. Breakfast is solid too – nothing fancy, but fresh croissants, local cheeses, and that strong Italian coffee you can smell brewing from the hallway. Parking’s a pain in Verona, especially in peak season like July when everyone’s here for the opera festival at the Arena (book ahead if you’re driving), but they have a few spots nearby, or you can ditch the car at the station lot and walk. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s reliable – I streamed a movie one night without a hitch, which is more than I can say for some fancier spots I’ve tried.

All in all, if you’re looking for a four-star stay that’s got an 8.3 rating for a reason – solid value without the pretension – Pepita Lodge is worth it. It’s not perfect; the elevator’s a tad slow, and if you’re light-sensitive, ask for a quieter courtyard room. But well, it put me right in the heart of things, close enough to grab gelato at that little place on Via Cappello or catch a sunset walk along the Adige River. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when Verona quiets down and you can actually hear the church bells without the tour bus rumble. If you’re plotting a romantic getaway or just need a base for exploring, this place feels authentic, you know? Like you’re living in Verona, not just visiting.

  • Kevin from United States – 20 May 2024 (9/10)

Property was very clean and comfortable. It more than exceeded our expectation and would love to stay here again. Roberto was very communicative and gave us some great insight on where to dine. Excellent service!!!

What could be improved: Clean and very close to dining and shops

  • Ron from Australia – 20 March 2025 (8/10)

The location was great, within walking distance from the train station. Security was very good. The spacious room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was provided at a pasticceria across the street. Food was good.

What could be improved: No complaints, I would stay there again.

  • Inese from Latvia – 16 March 2025 (9/10)

Liked the communication with the owner. Location on a quiet street- a short walk till the center. Possibility to park car on the street for free during night, also parking agrage available a few meters from location.
The room was nice indeed, very comfortable bed and pillows.
There was water free of charge in the room, tasty breakfast provided in a cafeteria right across the street.

  • Amalia from Romania – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

The location is very good, breakfast is served at a pub near it, parking is on the street but safe. really cozy place for a triple room, really clean.

What could be improved: The location does not provide check in 24/7 and although it said we could check in between 19 and 21 if we pay extra, they refuse to help as they did not have the people. We were in a road trip, and it was a bit stressful to be there in the exact hour that they could offer it. Reason was that Italian law prohibits remote check in. If you travel by car, arrival time is not very flexible. I think the location needs to work on either being more flexible or having a more client-oriented approach on this.

  • Triggiani from Germany – 31 December 2024 (9/10)

Owner and staff extremely friendly and competent.
Central and spacious, also the breakfast served at the closest cafeteria was nicely organised and friendly served.

What could be improved: Maybe because it’s an old building and like many other cases, if the guests occupying the room above us are very loud, you cannot sleep well.
Of course it doesn’t depend on the property.

  • Colette from United Kingdom – 20 August 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location halfway between train station and arena. Felt very safe. Easy walking distance to station and all of old town.
    Excellent host.
Felt very "Italian" rather than generic.
    Good size room.
Included breakfast in the cafe over the room – with fantastic coffee, fresh juice and huge pastries.

What could be improved: Maybe a little pricey, but I don't know the price of other places in the area so hard to compare.

  • Siobhan from United Kingdom – 15 August 2024 (7/10)

Fantastic location. Walking distance from the train station. Lovely welcome by Monica, including a map & tips of where to visit & a decent list of restaurant options. Clear instructions for breakfast & check out. Decent hairdryer too! (Which can be rare in tourist accommodation)
The space in the room was very good for the centre of a city.
Staff at the cafe for breakfast were very welcoming.

What could be improved: Personally I enjoyed having breakfast in the cafe across the road but my two teens weren’t as keen, so probably needs to be specified before booking. It’s a very minor point. I wouldn’t hesitate to return & stay here

  • Ahmet from Turkey – 17 July 2024 (7/10)

Location, just 5 – 10 mins to center.
    Size of room

    What could be improved: Breakfast
Actually there is no breakfast. Just sandwich like small finger, you have to cross street to have in a small cafe.

And staff was very angry, when i ask something he got angry. I dont understand the reason.

  • Giada from Luxembourg – 31 May 2024 (9/10)

Nice B&B very close to the center of Verona. Main attractions reachable in maximum 10/15 minutes. The Arena only 5 minutes by foot.
We had a big room to accommodate the 4 of us, beds were confortable and extra pillows provided The room is equipped with a mini bar and a water cooker for coffee and tea.
The owner Robert was very welcoming and provided us with tips to discover the city and advices for restaurants.

  • Lynette from United Kingdom – 3 November 2023 (9/10)

Location is fabulous in-between the train station and the main centre.
    Clean and comfortable.
Roberto was really helpful and gave us great information regarding the city and recommended lovely restaurants.
