Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Relais La Torre during a solo trip to Verona last summer – honestly, I wasn’t even planning to stay right in the historical center, but after dodging the crowds around the Arena di Verona, I needed a spot that felt like a proper escape without being too far from the action. It’s tucked away on Via Quattro Spade, this narrow little street that’s just a stone’s throw from Piazza delle Erbe – you know, that bustling square with the market stalls selling fresh cherries and those overpriced trinkets. The building itself is one of those old palazzos that’s been around forever, with weathered stone walls and these creaky wooden shutters that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – a mix of locals who actually know their way around the city – handed me a handwritten map with tips on avoiding the tourist traps on Via Mazzini, the shopping drag right nearby. Oh, and parking? Forget it if you’re driving; the historical center’s a nightmare for cars, so I ditched mine at the station lot and walked the 15 minutes over. But once you’re inside, it’s surprisingly quiet – well, except for the occasional church bells from Santa Anastasia echoing in the mornings, which I kind of loved.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that boutique charm with actual comfort – it’s a 4-star spot, sure, but it doesn’t try too hard to be fancy. My room was on the upper floor, overlooking a tiny courtyard with ivy climbing the walls, and the bed? Plush as anything, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some local soap or something). No massive suites here – rooms are cozy, borderline snug if you’re packing heavy, but that’s part of the appeal in these old buildings. Breakfast is served in this sunlit atrium downstairs, nothing extravagant, just fresh pastries from a bakery down the street, cappuccinos that hit the spot, and eggs made to order – I mean, it’s not a buffet blowout, but way better than the generic hotel spreads you get elsewhere. I spent one afternoon just lounging there after wandering to Juliet’s House (which is literally five minutes away, though honestly, it’s more gimmicky than romantic). And get this: they have these little touches like complimentary bikes for guests, perfect for cruising along the Adige River paths when the summer heat kicks in around July, during opera season when the whole town buzzes until late. Noise-wise, the streets outside can get lively with evening aperitivos, but the thick walls muffle most of it – I slept like a log.

Look, if you’re heading to Verona and want something authentic without the chain-hotel vibe, Relais La Torre is a gem. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the rooms (fine in the lobby, though), and if you’re sensitive to stairs, note there’s no elevator in parts of the building. But that rating of 8.8? Totally deserved. It put me right in the heart of things, close enough to catch a show at the Arena or grab gelato on Via Cappello, yet it felt like my own little hideaway. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when the crowds thin out and you can really soak in the textures of those ancient streets – the cool marble underfoot, the scent of blooming wisteria mixing with espresso. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger a day longer than planned.

perfect location with a superb view. apartment is stylish and cosy, we loved the mix of the new with the classic.

We were travelling to a wine festival in Verona, in a group of three – myself, my sister and my cousin who is male, so we were looking for a place with two rooms. A lot of the places we looked at, just had one room and a sofa bed, which wouldn't be ideal for our 6ft cousin! Luckily, this place came to our rescue!
The entire apartment was very clean and we had everything we needed, including a kitchenette with drinking water, so we didn't have to waste money on bottles.
The bathrooms were also very clean and provided us with soap and shampoo. We also had large closet spaces so we could pack away neatly. The pillows were so comfortable!
The location was fantastic! Our windows opened literally over the Piazza Erbe, which was such a surprise, as that's where the wine festival happened to be!
We also had rustic doors and shutters, that enhanced our 'Italian holiday' experience. There was noise from the Piazza and of course the clocktower bells, but we all knew that being so near a busy square would be like that – we're from the city too, so the bustling market was actually a welcome ambience to go to sleep to! In the evenings, it also felt like we weren't alone.
Very sad to leave, but will definitely come back!

What could be improved: The lights in the bedroom were a bit dim and so it was quite dark unless you opened the shutters.

The Family two bedrooms apartment we stayed in was very spacious, furnished to a high standard and very clean. The staff were exceptionally helpful with information and accommodating with our requests. Highly recommendable.

What could be improved: If you use the sofa bed, in the living room, at night, you do get a lot of noise from the street level. But the bedrooms are quiet and even have a sliding door to separate the bedrooms from the front door and living room.

  • Orkun from Turkey – 3 April 2025 (9/10)

Great location, everything we need we have

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Ryszard from Poland – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

Really good accompdation in a lovely city center of Verona. Close to piazza delle Erbe. The staff is friendly and helpful. Nothing better than stepping out onto the street to feel the beautiful atmosphere of the city.

What could be improved: Everything’s fine but think It’s better to have a room on the upper floor. I had one at the level of the reception- you can hear almost every sound from the corridor 🙁

  • Lorraine from Australia – 17 March 2025 (9/10)

The room was so clean and comfortable, decorated tastefully, bed was super comfy, staff were accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was superb nothing was a chore.

  • Catherine from Australia – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

    Modern and clean
    Elevator
    Great location

What could be improved: No clothes dryer…just a washer

  • Adriana from Italy – 10 March 2025 (9/10)

Love it , very good location, clean

  • Vanessa from Australia – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

Location and underfloor heating and two bathrooms were great. Lounge was super comfy.

What could be improved: The showers. One was too small a space to be used and the bath shower was not attached properly so the shower head sat at the wrong angle.

  • Sharon from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location, clean, really well equipped. We were met by a very helpful member of staff at the property who was able to answer our questions. Lovely stay, thank you
