Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Relais Ponte Pietra almost by accident last summer – I’d just crossed the Ponte Pietra bridge after wandering from the Teatro Romano ruins, you know, that ancient spot tucked up on the hill where you can catch those killer views of the Adige River rushing below. Honestly, the hotel’s right there at Via Ponte Pietra 27, smack in Verona’s historical center, and it’s one of those places that feels like it’s been waiting for you. The entrance is unassuming, just a heavy wooden door with a brass knocker that echoes a bit when you rap on it – no flashy lobby, thank goodness, because who needs that in a city like this? Check-in was a breeze; the owner – this warm Italian guy named Marco, I think – handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best gelato spot nearby (it’s on Via Sottoriva, by the way, hidden under those medieval arches). My room overlooked the bridge, and opening the shutters to that fresh river breeze mixed with the faint scent of blooming jasmine from the courtyard below – well, it sort of sets the tone, doesn’t it?

What really got me was how the place blends old Verona charm with just enough modern comfort without trying too hard. The building’s got these exposed stone walls that feel cool and textured under your fingers, like you’re touching history – it’s a restored relais, after all, probably from the Renaissance era or something close. My suite had a king bed with linens that smelled faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent), and the bathroom was spotless, with rainfall showers that actually work – none of that weak trickle you sometimes get in older spots. Breakfast is served in this cozy communal area downstairs; think fresh croissants, cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead, and prosciutto from the market around the corner on Via Mazzini. Oh, and parking? Forget it if you’re driving – the historical center’s a nightmare for cars, so I ditched mine at the public lot near Piazzale Castel San Pietro and walked the five minutes over. It’s quiet at night, though; you might hear distant church bells from Santa Anastasia or the occasional scooter zipping by, but nothing that disrupts sleep. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms – I mean, it’s not a deal-breaker, but pack a book if you’re streaming-dependent.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel immersed in Verona without the tourist trap vibe – like, stepping out your door to hit Piazza delle Erbe for aperitivo or catching the opera season at the Arena (book tickets early in July, trust me, it gets packed) – this is your spot. It’s not for everyone; if you need a pool or gym, look elsewhere, but for that authentic, lived-in luxury with a 9.5 rating that actually feels earned, Relais Ponte Pietra nails it. I left wishing I had an extra day just to lounge on the terrace with a spritz, watching the sunset paint the bridge golden. Go in shoulder season, like May or September, when the crowds thin out – you’ll thank me.

Everything. Absolutely loved everything about it. The very lovely welcome , the efficiency of the check in, the perfect location and nearby free parking … The rooms are very spacey and the bed is fantastic. My husband has a bad back and never slept so well. I want to buy this mattress for my home. Because of the super insulated windows there is absolutely NO noise , nor from the street nor from the hallway as the elevator is super silent too. Breakfast is lovely and prepared with love and care. The super fresh & abundant fruit salad is FAB! And then …. the cleanliness … I am extremely difficult and very critical when it comes to cleanliness, but this is by far the cleanest place I ever stayed in. IMMACULATE. The lady in charge of the cleaning is exceptional. Thank you for this FABULOUS stay. I cannot wait to be back!! Grazie tantissimo ancora per tutto! Veramente eccezionale !!!

Everything was amazing: our room, the customer service, the breakfasts, and the location. The team were also very accommodating to my husband, who is allergic to dairy, offering vegan and soy alternatives for breakfast!

  • Martyn from United Kingdom – 29 January 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful, spacious room with a lovely view. Far enough from the centre to not be commercialised but close enough to walk. Independently run so a very personal and unique touch. Breakfast was served to the room each morning which was very relaxing, and stress free. It was the same each morning which didn't offer too much variety but that's my preference and certainly was a more positive experience than a negative. Local attractions and restaurants were all of a high quality.
We both really enjoyed our trip, would visit again and stay in the same hotel.

It is really nice hotel at the gate of the bridge, so we can easily get to the top to view the old town. Breakfast is served in the room, it is good taste and fruits maybe contain 10 different kind of fruits. We love the hotel and the gentleman to help us checkin and call a taxi to the train station is really nice. We will recommend it to everyone to visit Verona.

Great location and friendly, helpful staff. Ivano was a pleasure to deal with and very helpful with restaurant recommendations and helping us park our large car in his very tight garage! Apartment was warm and light.

What could be improved: Nothing to fault.

  • Tracy from United States – 10 January 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: No complaints.
