Hotel Description

You know, stumbling upon Relais Ristori in Verona’s historical center felt like one of those lucky finds that make a trip memorable – I mean, it’s tucked away on this tiny alley called Vicoletto Circolo, just off Corso Porta Borsari, where the ancient Roman gate still stands like it’s guarding the whole neighborhood. I arrived late afternoon in summer, dodging the tourist crowds spilling out from the Arena di Verona (which is literally a five-minute walk away, if you cut through the back streets past those little gelato shops on Via Cappello – yeah, the one with Juliet’s balcony hype). Parking was a bit of a hassle, honestly; the historical center’s all pedestrian zones, so I ended up leaving the car at a lot near the river and hauling my bags over the cobblestones. But once I pushed open that unassuming door, it was like stepping into a cozy, revamped palazzo – exposed brick walls that smell faintly of aged wood and fresh plaster, and a reception area that’s more like a living room with plush armchairs and a stack of local maps. The staff? Super welcoming, this guy named Marco chatted with me about the best time to hit the Ponte Pietra for sunset views – early evening, he said, before the dinner rush hits the riverside trattorias.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that old-Verona charm with stuff that actually makes traveling easier. My room was on the second floor (no elevator, fair warning if you’re lugging heavy suitcases – I learned that the hard way), but it overlooked a quiet courtyard where you could hear distant church bells from San Zeno in the mornings, sort of muffled and peaceful, not the chaotic street noise you’d get on the main drags like Via Mazzini. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, with those crisp white linens that feel cool against your skin after a hot day wandering the city, and the bathroom had this rain shower that was a godsend – though the water pressure dipped a little during peak hours, you know, when everyone’s getting ready for opera season at the Arena. Breakfast was included, nothing fancy but solid: fresh cornetti, cappuccinos made right there (smelling like heaven, with that nutty espresso kick), and some local cheeses from the Veneto region. It’s not a huge spread, but it beats the overpriced cafes nearby. Oh, and if you’re into biking, they have rentals – I grabbed one and pedaled along the Adige River path, which is blissfully empty before 9 a.m.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel immersed in Verona without the big-chain hotel vibe, Relais Ristori is a solid pick – especially in shoulder season like late spring, when the crowds thin out and you can snag a room without breaking the bank. It’s rated an 8.5 for good reason; it’s not perfect (those stairs, well, they’re character-building), but it puts you right in the heart of things, steps from hidden spots like the Giardino Giusti gardens or that tiny enoteca on Via Sottoriva for aperitivo. I’d go back in a heartbeat – just pack light and embrace the walkable chaos of the centro storico.

Reviews

  • Great place in great location – Robert from United Kingdom – 14 July 2025 (10/10)

Very convenient for arena and opera, quiet little street, and good security

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Comfortable stay with great communication – Claire from United Kingdom – 20 June 2025 (7/10)

Clean, nicely decorated and comfortable bed. Very good communication from Frederica
Loved the outdoor space and indoor tables

What could be improved: I was hoping there was a breakfast offered like booking.com mentioned!!
Didn’t like the air-con units on the balcony
    No milk!
Thin walls, you can hear people’s conversations. Didn’t bother me but not for a romantic stay.

  • This was a great centrally located property which helped us to really enjoy Verona. – Jennifer from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (8/10)

Location was terrific, the owner was really responsive whenever I contacted her. The check in and check out process was easy. Lovely common parts with an indoor courtyard to sit and soak up the sun. A nice touch to have a couple of bottles of water and biscuits.

What could be improved: It would have been useful to have a chair in the room to put our clothes on! Also for guests it would be nice for there to be the odd leaflet or local map in the room on arrival.

  • The location was superb – it was easy and trouble free – Jozay from Australia – 24 May 2025 (8/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: The shower was very small and the water didn't drain well – we had to be very careful to watch that the water didn't overflow the shower

  • Romantic getaway with a great location – Tessa from Canada – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

Loved the location and how romantic our room felt! Staff was very responsive and helpful when checking in 🙂

Have a special style that makes unique! We really love the place, have a great location, everything it was clean. And we could leave our baggage prior check in!
Additionally we received a lot of recommendations from Maria Vittoria, that was really nice and kindly.

  • Would recommend Verona and this b n b – Sharon from United Kingdom – 24 October 2024 (9/10)

    Great location, great breakfast,
    Lovely host.

  • I can’t recommend it enough! – Aleksey from United States – 15 October 2024 (10/10)

Every Bed & Breakfast should be modeled from Relais Ristori! Every detail is thought of, all because it’s run by very lovely young lady, Maria Vitoria, who loves what she does. From meeting the guests, attending to every wish, guessing what you need, helping with your luggage, cooking excellent breakfast, making great coffee…just to start!

  • Great stay and location with excellent personal service. – Mcgillicuddy from United Kingdom – 13 October 2024 (10/10)

Great location, very clean throughout, Maria was a wonderful host and the cost was very reasonable indeed. Breakfast was an excellent choice of food and the freshly made scrambled eggs were wonderful.

What could be improved: We felt that the addition of tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have improved the stay for us.
