Residence all’Adige Overview
I remember pulling up to Residence all’Adige on Via Magellano after a long drive from Milan – honestly, Verona’s traffic can be a nightmare if you’re not careful, especially around the fairgrounds during Vinitaly season in spring. It’s tucked away in the San Zeno neighborhood, which is this charming, less touristy part of town, right along the Adige River. You know, the kind of spot where locals actually live and grab their morning espresso at little bars on Via Barbarani, not the packed squares downtown. I arrived in the evening, and the check-in was a breeze – the front desk guy was super friendly, chatting about the best nearby gelato spot (it’s Gelateria Ponte Pietra, by the way, just a 15-minute stroll across the bridge). Parking was easy too; they’ve got a secure lot out back, which is a godsend in a city where street spots vanish like magic during peak tourist months.
What really won me over was how the place feels more like a homey apartment setup than your standard hotel – I mean, it’s called a “residence” for a reason. My room was spacious, with a little kitchenette that came in handy for whipping up a quick pasta after a day exploring the Arena (it’s about a 20-minute walk from here, past the Castelvecchio bridge, which is stunning at sunset). The decor’s modern but not flashy, with these soft, textured linens that smelled faintly of lavender – probably from some local laundry service. There’s a balcony overlooking the river, and in the mornings, you’d hear the gentle hum of boats and birds, not the usual city roar. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Solid, no buffering issues even when I was streaming shows late at night. That said, it’s not perfect – the air conditioning can be a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper, and while the breakfast spread is decent (fresh croissants, yogurt, and that strong Italian coffee), it’s self-serve in a communal area that gets crowded around 8 a.m. on weekends. But hey, that’s part of the authentic vibe; it sort of forces you to mingle with other guests, like that German couple who tipped me off about the hidden trails along the Adige for a quiet bike ride.
All in all, if you’re visiting Verona and want to skip the overpriced spots in the historic center – you know, around Piazza delle Erbe where everything’s jammed with tour groups – this 4-star gem is a smart pick. It’s got that 8.7 rating for good reason: comfortable, practical, and positioned just right for day trips to Lake Garda (about 40 minutes by car). I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in fall when the leaves turn and the neighborhood feels even more magical. Just pack light layers – Verona’s evenings can get chilly by the river.

Views from the terrace were very good. The location was a little out from the main area of Verona but a good bus service was just outside the residence. It was a nice walk into Verona alongside the river. The local neighborhood had good supermarket, cafes and restaurants.
What could be improved: Although a good bus service was available it didn't run late at night so a taxi or walk back from Verona if you were out late.
The apartment was good but could have done with a kettle.Galja from Slovenia – 2 May 2024 (9/10)
Great hotel, very big rooms, everything looked like new. The hotel is very close to the city, bus stop is infront of the hotel (2€ per person).
