Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Residence “Professor’s Nest” – yeah, that’s the full name, Residence “Professor’s Nest” – Verona Apartments – on this tiny, tucked-away alley called Vicolo Cieco Dietro San Francesco, right in the heart of Verona’s historic bits. It’s one of those spots you might miss if you’re not paying attention, squeezed between old stone walls that have probably seen centuries of foot traffic. I mean, Verona’s old town is all narrow lanes like this, but this one’s a dead-end – vicolo cieco means blind alley, after all – so it’s surprisingly quiet, even though you’re just a short stroll from the bustle around Piazza delle Erbe. I arrived in the late afternoon, dodging a few Vespas on Via San Francesco nearby, and honestly, parking was a bit of a hassle; the historic center doesn’t love cars, so I ended up leaving mine in a paid lot over by the Adige River, about a 10-minute walk away. But once I buzzed in, the check-in was a breeze – the host, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think?), handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the neighborhood, including where to grab the best gelato on Via Mazzini if you’re craving something sweet after dark.
What really got me about the place – and it’s rated a solid 8.7 for good reason, with its 4-star vibe – is how it feels like crashing in some eccentric professor’s actual home, you know? The apartments are spacious, with these quirky touches like exposed brick walls and shelves crammed with old books (mostly Italian literature, from what I could tell), giving it that intellectual nest feel. My unit had a little kitchenette where I whipped up espresso each morning, and the bed was one of those comfy, sink-right-in types that make you forget you’re not at home. Sensory-wise, there’s this faint scent of aged wood and fresh linens that hits you as soon as you walk in, and from the window, you can hear the distant chime of bells from the Duomo if the wind’s right – though, fair warning, it can get a tad echoey during Verona’s opera season in summer when the Arena’s packed and tourists spill over. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times in the evenings (blame the thick walls, I suppose), and if you’re hauling heavy bags, note there’s no elevator – just a spiral staircase that adds to the charm but might tire you out after a day wandering to Juliet’s balcony, which is literally a 15-minute amble away. Still, I loved popping out to that little bakery on Via San Nazaro for cornetti in the mornings; it’s the kind of local spot where nonnas gossip over coffee, and it beats any hotel buffet.
Look, if you’re heading to Verona – especially outside peak July crowds when the place stays blissfully low-key – this is the sort of spot that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret side of the city. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic, with that perfect mix of comfort and character that lets you live like a local rather than just visit. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in spring when the wisteria blooms along the river paths nearby; just pack light and embrace the walkable everything. You won’t regret it, trust me.

I had an amazing stay at Professor’s Nest – Verona Apartments! From the moment I arrived, it truly felt like a home away from home. The apartment was beautifully designed, warm, and incredibly comfortable. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged to ensure a relaxing stay.
One of the highlights was the fully equipped kitchen, which had everything I needed to prepare meals with ease. Whether it was a quick breakfast or a cozy dinner, it was a pleasure to cook in such a well-stocked space.
The apartment was spotless, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the atmosphere was peaceful—perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring Verona. The location was also ideal, offering both tranquility and easy access to the city’s main attractions.
I stayed for five nights, and I truly felt at home the entire time. I will definitely return!
What could be improved: Everything was perfect.
Just a suggestion: it would be great to have some basics to cook like salt, pepper, olive oil.Vahe from Armenia – 3 December 2024 (9/10)

Lovely flat in university district, super close to old centre. On a sunny warm day the balcony would be a lovely spot to have lunch.

Eirini from Greece – 20 October 2024 (8/10)
Excellent position, convenient next to the library and the university. Very close to the center. Many cafes around but still not noisy. Good facilities.
What could be improved: Cleaning. Recommended for next guests if the stuff cannot come often to leave extra toilet paper, garbage bags, soaps and maybe a cleaning mopp in the room for use.
The internet needs signalinhancer! I used more the library instead for my work.Sheila from Ireland – 17 October 2024 (9/10)
