Residenza Cipressi e Olivi Overview
You know, when I first pulled up to Residenza Cipressi e Olivi on Viale dei Colli – that’s that winding road up in the Torricelle hills, just a quick 10-minute drive from Verona’s historic center – I was honestly a bit skeptical. It’s tucked away in this residential neighborhood, surrounded by cypress trees and olive groves that give it this almost hidden-gem vibe, but let’s be real, it’s a 3-star spot, so I wasn’t expecting five-star glamour. Pulling into the small parking lot (which, by the way, is a godsend in Verona where street parking is a nightmare, especially during the summer opera season at the Arena), I noticed the building’s simple stone facade, kind of rustic with those wooden shutters that creak a little in the breeze. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco, chatted with me about the best spots for aperitivo down by Ponte Pietra, which is like a 20-minute walk downhill if you’re up for it. He even handed over a map with his own scribbled notes, pointing out shortcuts through the olive paths that most tourists miss.
What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a cozy escape from the tourist hustle. My room overlooked the valley – nothing fancy, just a balcony with wrought-iron rails where I sipped coffee in the morning, listening to the distant hum of scooters on Via Santa Giuliana below. The air up there smells fresh, like pine and earth after a rain, especially in the evenings when the hills cool down. Inside, it’s got that authentic Italian charm: terracotta floors that are cool underfoot, a mini-fridge stocked with affordable local wines (try the Valpolicella – it’s from right around here), and a bathroom that’s compact but spotless, with those thick cotton towels that actually dry you off properly. Breakfast is served in this little garden courtyard – think fresh croissants, homemade jams from the nearby orchards, and espresso that packs a punch. I mean, it’s not a buffet extravaganza, but it’s heartfelt, and on quieter weekdays, you might have the place to yourself. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the rooms farthest from the lobby, especially if you’re trying to stream something late at night – but hey, that’s Verona for you, where the real draw is wandering out anyway. And noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet after dark, save for the occasional owl or church bell from San Giorgio in Braida up the road.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting – maybe basing yourself here for day trips to the city center or hikes in the Lessini mountains – this is your spot. It’s got that unpretentious warmth that makes you linger, and with a solid 8.7 rating, it’s clear others agree. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the olives are blooming and the crowds haven’t hit peak yet. Just pack comfortable shoes for those hill walks – trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Very lovely property surrounded by vineyards. It's further from the city center, but it was not a problem because we had a car. The house is nicely decorated and very clean.
Communication with the agency was excellent, and they gave us very detailed instructions on how to do self-check-in and how to find the house.Vladimír from Slovakia – 30 January 2023 (9/10)
