Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Residenza Vecchia Veronetta almost by accident last spring, when I was wandering through Verona’s Veronetta district – you know, that quirky neighborhood across the Adige River from the main historic center, where the university kids hang out and the streets feel a bit more lived-in than the polished tourist traps around the Arena. It’s tucked away on Santa Maria in Organo, right next to that gorgeous old church with the same name – honestly, the bells chiming in the morning are like something out of a movie, soft and melodic, not the jarring kind that wake you up grumpy. I mean, Verona can get chaotic in peak season, with all the Romeo and Juliet pilgrims crowding Via Mazzini, but this spot? It’s just a 10-minute stroll over Ponte Pietra to the action, yet far enough that you escape the evening buskers and gelato lines. Parking was a bit of a hassle – typical for these narrow Italian streets; I ended up in a paid lot a couple blocks away on Via San Nazaro, but once you’re settled, you forget about it because everything’s walkable. The building itself has that classic Veronese charm, all weathered stone and wooden shutters – sort of creaky in a comforting way, like staying at a friend’s nonna’s place.

What really won me over, though, was how the place blends old-school elegance with those little modern touches that make traveling less of a chore. My room – well, it was more like a mini-apartment, with high ceilings and these exposed beams that smelled faintly of aged wood and fresh linens. No cookie-cutter vibes here; the decor nods to Verona’s history, with some antique prints on the walls (I spotted one of the old Roman theater nearby), but they’ve got speedy Wi-Fi and a Nespresso machine that saved my caffeine-deprived soul after a day exploring. The staff? Super approachable – the front desk guy, Marco (I think that was his name), chatted with me about the best local osteria on Via Sottoriva for a plate of bigoli pasta, not the touristy spots. Check-in was a breeze, even though I arrived late after a delayed train from Milan; they had my key ready and pointed out the quiet courtyard where you can sip wine without the street noise filtering in. Oh, and speaking of noise – it’s generally peaceful, especially in the off-season like early May when I was there, but if you’re a light sleeper, note that weekends might bring some chatter from the nearby bars until around midnight. The breakfast spread was solid too, nothing extravagant, but fresh croissants and cappuccino that beat the chain hotels hands down – though I wish they’d stock more fruit options, you know?

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re actually living in Verona rather than just visiting, this 4-star gem with its solid 8 rating is a winner. It’s not perfect – the stairs can be a workout if you’ve got heavy bags (no elevator in the older wing), and it’s pricier during festival season like the Opera at the Arena – but that’s Verona for you. I’d go back in a heartbeat for that authentic slice of the city, especially if you’re traveling solo or as a couple looking to unwind after hitting up Giardino Giusti gardens just down the road. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger a little longer over your morning espresso, watching the locals cycle by.

  • Antonietta from Italy – 5 November 2024 (10/10)

Consigliatissimo!

What could be improved: Nulla da eccepire!

  • Herre from Netherlands – 30 September 2024 (7/10)

    Prima appartement

What could be improved: ondanks de late geboeking voor de marmomac was de prijs per nacht niet in verhouding

  • Valentina from Austria – 29 May 2024 (9/10)

  • Dagmara from Germany – 30 July 2024 (10/10)

  • Andrea from Austria – 13 May 2024 (10/10)

Jederzeit wieder.

  • Antje from Germany – 1 September 2024 (3/10)

What could be improved: Schimmel im Bad und Schlafzimmer (mit Babybett).
