I stayed here during peak tourist season and barely heard the crowds that I knew were just a few blocks away. The rooms have this slightly worn elegance that I’ve come to associate with family-run Italian places – not pristine like a chain hotel, but comfortable in that way where you can tell people actually live and work here year-round. The floors creak a bit when you walk around, and there’s this faint smell of old wood and maybe someone’s grandmother’s cooking drifting up from somewhere below.

What really sold me on the place was how the staff treated me like I was staying at their cousin’s apartment rather than checking into a hotel. The woman at reception (I think she might actually own the place) gave me these incredibly specific directions to restaurants that weren’t in any guidebook I’d seen – places where locals actually eat instead of the tourist traps near the Arena. She also warned me about which streets get completely packed during the evening passeggiata, which saved me from getting stuck in those slow-moving crowds when I was trying to get back after dinner.
