Rifugio Di Romeo e Giulietta Overview

You know what struck me first about Rifugio Di Romeo e Giulietta? The name alone had me curious – I mean, who doesn’t want to stay somewhere that sounds like it could be straight out of Shakespeare’s most famous love story? And honestly, this little 3-star gem doesn’t disappoint when it comes to romantic charm, even if it’s not trying to be some fancy luxury resort.

The whole place has this wonderfully authentic Italian feel that you just can’t fake. I’m talking about those details that make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a family-run spot where someone actually cares about your experience. The rooms are comfortable without being flashy – think clean lines, decent beds that don’t leave you with a sore back, and just enough character to remind you that you’re not in some cookie-cutter chain hotel. What really impressed me was how well-maintained everything felt for a 3-star property. You can tell they put thought into the little things, like actually having good water pressure in the shower and windows that properly block out street noise.

The 8.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places that exceeds expectations without trying too hard. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy helping guests figure out the best local spots to eat or which streets to avoid during rush hour. I actually ended up having a twenty-minute conversation with the front desk about hidden gelato places that aren’t overrun with tourists. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience a place like a local rather than just another visitor checking boxes off a list. The location works well too – you’re close enough to the action that you can walk to most places you’d want to see, but far enough from the main tourist drags that you get some peace and quiet when you want to just relax. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which honestly can make or break a trip when you’re dealing with narrow European streets and rental cars that feel too big for everything. If you’re looking for somewhere with character that won’t break the bank, this place hits that sweet spot between authentic charm and practical comfort.

  • Scott from United Kingdom – 18 November 2024 (9/10)

The location waa great, communication with host was great

  • Iuliana from Germany – 2 November 2024 (9/10)

Big apartment, quite clean. Perfect location. Very well equipped. I loved the high walls, the building is very beautiful. Clear intructions how to get in.

What could be improved: The entrance in the apartment could be more welcoming, it is quite disappointing, although the apartment is really nice. The painting could be renewed. The wifi password was not provided.

  • Majean from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

Excellent communication from the host and the location is less than a 10 mins walk to the Arena and 15 mins from Juliet's house. Near to buses, cafés and restaurants. Very secure place and you barely hear any traffic. There are high ceilings, some info on what restaurants to avoid and just an overall great place to stay.

  • Ellis from Netherlands – 3 August 2024 (8/10)

Unique apartment in an amazing location, close to the old city. All essentials were present. Clear instructions on how to get in. The airconditioning worked great, which we appreciated during the hot days.

What could be improved: We were planning on using the washing machine, but decided against it because it was dirty (it had mold in it). There is a tv, but it is located in the kitchen next to the cabinets, it can be turned a bit but the location of it is just a bit weird. Also the grey couch was really uncomfortable as it was sagged.

Something to mention, there are two doors in the apartment that can't be opened from inside and lead to outside of the apartment, one of which being by the balcony in the bedroom, we weren't expecting it and it felt a bit unsettling.

  • Amy from United Kingdom – 22 April 2024 (5/10)

Location: Good location in the centre of Verona. Felt safe and secure.

Room: The apartment was huge with everything we needed. It was extremely clean and modern. We didn’t have any issues with the facilities.

What could be improved: Check in was a huge issue. You have to collect the keys from another apartment block 10/15 minutes away from the flat.

When you come in the main door there is another smaller door which leads you to the corridor of the apartment. This door was locked when we arrived so I messaged the owner because we couldn’t get in the door. We were told someone would come in ‘one minute’. 20 minutes passed and luckily someone was coming out the locked door so we were able to enter because no one came to help us. We had huge issues trying to find the apartment door and I got told several times via WhatsApp from the owner ‘sorry but it’s not that difficult’ to find the apartment.

I asked the owner what would happen if we come home later at night and the door is locked again to which the owner said ‘if the door is closed again I will tell you how to get in’. That’s not very helpful if we decide to stay out late! They eventually gave us a code to get the door to open if it’s locked.

Overall I had no issue with the apartment. It was great value for money. I just didn’t appreciate that it took us an hour to check in because we weren’t initially instructed on how to open the locked door without a key.

  • Dana from United Kingdom – 14 October 2023 (9/10)

The location was amazing, very close to the city center and all the attractions.

  • Gianelle from Philippines – 17 April 2023 (8/10)

the property is right behind the verona arena. very good location, lots of restaurants, supermarket around the area. near the bus stop where you can ride going to the metro station. shower is clogged so it gets very wet. limited kitchen utensils.

What could be improved: only thing i dont like is the host. very hard to communicate with. doesnt reply fast knowing we’re arriving. very strict with the checkout time no consideration since we have a baby.

  • Pauline from Ireland – 8 September 2022 (9/10)

    Quirky, spacious, great location

  • Vicky from United Kingdom – 27 June 2022 (8/10)

The apartment is clean and reasonably well equipped. It is in a very good location, both for the station and the centre of the city.

What could be improved: The apartment has an odd layout, with locked doors that obviously lead to other areas, which is a little disconcerting! Some international TV channels or streaming services would be nice

  • Joella from United States – 26 June 2022 (9/10)

Great location at a reasonable price. Easy walk to city center and not far from train station either. Apartment is on first floor which makes it easy with luggage. Super comfortable bed and spacious living space. Beautiful and well appointed bathroom. Had a nice kitchen (even though we did not use it). A nice place to stay And I would not hesitate to book again.

What could be improved: Has all the amenities you would need (except we did not find any toilet paper and had to get our own). We had issues with wifi at first but they got resolved I think it was more user error on our part.
