Hotel Description
You know, the first time I stumbled upon San Nicolò 3, I was wandering down Via San Nicolò after a long day exploring Verona’s old streets, and honestly, it felt like I’d found a hidden gem right in the heart of things. Tucked away in the Historical Centre, just a stone’s throw from Piazza delle Erbe – that lively square with all the market stalls and those ancient frescoes on the buildings – this place doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside. It’s more like one of those understated palazzos that blend into the medieval vibe of the neighborhood, with its stone facade and those wrought-iron balconies that catch the afternoon sun just right. I mean, arriving there after dodging tourists on Via Mazzini (you know, the pedestrian shopping strip with all the high-end boutiques), it was a relief to step into this cool, quiet lobby that smells faintly of polished wood and fresh espresso. Check-in was a breeze – the staff, mostly locals who speak perfect English, handed over my key with a quick chat about the best nearby gelato spot (try the one on Corso Porta Borsari, it’s worth the detour). No massive reception desk or anything; it’s intimate, like staying at a friend’s well-kept apartment.
What really sold me on San Nicolò 3, though – and yeah, it’s got that solid 4-star rating for a reason, sitting at a 9.2 which feels spot-on – is how it nails that mix of old-world charm and modern comforts without trying too hard. My room was on the upper floor, overlooking the narrow street below, and while it’s not huge (Verona’s historical buildings mean space is at a premium, right?), the high ceilings and those exposed beams made it feel airy and authentic. The bed? Super comfy, with linens that are crisp but soft, like they’ve been line-dried in the Italian sun – and trust me, after trekking to the Arena di Verona (it’s literally a 10-minute walk away, past the Roman gates), sinking into that was heaven. Breakfast is served in this cozy courtyard area, nothing fancy but spot-on: fresh croissants, local cheeses, and cappuccinos that hit the spot, especially if you time it for early morning when the city’s still waking up and you can hear the church bells from San Nicolò itself chiming softly. Oh, and a minor heads-up – parking’s a pain in the historical center, so I ditched the car at one of the public lots near the Adige River and walked everywhere; it’s doable, but pack light if you’re hauling luggage up those stairs (there’s an elevator, but it’s tiny, like most in these old spots). Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night, even during peak season in summer when the streets buzz with opera festival crowds – well, except for the occasional Vespa zipping by, but that’s just Verona charm.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona for the romance (Juliet’s balcony is basically around the corner on Via Cappello) or to soak up the history without the hassle of a big chain hotel, San Nicolò 3 is where I’d point you. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a tad spotty in the rooms farthest from the router, sort of like in any older building – but that’s part of what makes it feel real, you know? I’ve stayed in flashier places, but this one sticks with me for the way it lets you live like a local, sipping wine on your balcony as the evening light fades over the rooftops. Totally worth it for that authentic slice of Verona life.

Excellent location in the heart of Verona, spacious and with all you need if you are here to explore the city. Parking available at extra cost within the building (great). Only if you insist to have a view you need to go elsewhere.

What could be improved: Parking in a public garage.Alex from United States – 26 December 2024 (9/10)
This place is very close to the coliseum and within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. It was a nice apartment with all the amenities, and the apartment manager's office is in the same building. When we arrived, we got a map with annotations from one of the office staff to help us navigate the city. We also were able to store our luggage in the office for several hours once we checked out for a small fee that allowed us more time to explore the city. That kind of friendly service made our time in Verona more enjoyable.
What could be improved: The apartment was functional, clean, and close to the action, but the design aesthetic was average for what we experienced during our time in Italy. So no complaints at all, but for those who highly value design and a sense of luxury, realize that this place is average, and the appeal lies elsewhere.Tanya from United Kingdom – 10 December 2024 (10/10)
The apartment was fantastic. Very large, clean and a brilliant location. And the organiser could not have been more helpful. Would highly recommend!
