Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Santa Chiara Suites on a drizzly afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets get all slick and shiny, and the tourists haven’t quite swarmed in yet. It’s tucked right on Via Santa Chiara, this quiet little side street off the busier Via Roma, just a stone’s throw from the Adige River. Honestly, if you’re coming from the train station like I did, it’s an easy 15-minute walk past those old stone bridges and the occasional gelateria that locals swear by (try the one on Ponte Pietra for pistachio that actually tastes like the real deal). The building itself is one of those unassuming Italian townhouses – cream-colored facade with wrought-iron balconies – nothing flashy, but it fits right into the neighborhood. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly guy named Marco, chatted with me about the best spots for aperitivo while handing over the keys. No big lobby fuss, just a cozy reception area that smells faintly of fresh espresso and whatever herbs they’re growing in the courtyard out back. Oh, and parking – well, it’s Verona, so street spots are hit or miss, but they have a few reserved ones if you book ahead. I mean, don’t expect a garage, but it saved me from circling blocks like a maniac.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a hidden gem in a city that’s all about the drama of the Arena and Juliet’s balcony. My suite – sort of a junior one on the second floor – had these high ceilings and exposed beams that made it feel way bigger than your average 3-star spot. The bed was comfy, with linens that weren’t starched to death, and there was a little kitchenette where I whipped up pasta from the market on Piazza delle Erbe (pro tip: go early mornings when the vendors are setting up; the cheese guy there is a character). You can hear the faint hum of scooters zipping by in the evenings, but it’s not noisy like the chaos around Corso Porta Nuova – more like a gentle reminder you’re in Italy, you know? Breakfast is simple – croissants, yogurt, that strong coffee – served in the courtyard when it’s warm, surrounded by potted lemon trees that give off this zesty scent. It’s not gourmet, but honestly, who needs that when you’re steps from trattorias on Via Sottoriva serving risotto all’Amarone? One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, especially during peak season in July when everyone’s streaming opera from the Arena festivals. But hey, that’s Verona for you – sometimes you just gotta unplug and wander.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting, Santa Chiara Suites is a solid pick. It’s not trying to be some luxury chain; it’s more about that authentic slice of local life, close enough to the historic center (a quick stroll to Castelvecchio) but far from the tour bus hordes. I stayed three nights and left wishing for more – perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate the little things, like waking up to church bells from nearby San Zeno. With an 8.1 rating, it’s earned its stripes, and I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the rates dip and the city’s magic feels all yours.

Reviews

  • Excellent stay and altogether very clean and met our expectations except for some small details. – Jannon from Spain – 2 July 2025 (8/10)

The location, cleanliness, security were all prefect. The apartment is not far at all from the center or from bus stops that take you into the city/main train station so it’s easy to get around (City center, Garda lake, Venice). The host was very flexible and easy to contact. The apartment is roomy enough for 3 people and having the washing machine is also a plus.
The neighborhood is generally calm and safe.

What could be improved: There could’ve been more amenities such as salt/pepper, kitchen towels… mostly in the kitchen.
The bar downstairs can be somewhat noisy in the afternoon (for us it was only a couple of days in our week long stay) and the street as well. The windows are not very soundproof so you can hear the cars in the morning.

  • Lovely apartment in great area & many positives – Julie from United Kingdom – 14 May 2025 (7/10)

Lovely new decor, as per the photos. Very comfortable bed. Excellent shower-room.
We really liked the local area. We enjoyed the cafés, bars and a traditional restaurant and shop just around the corner. Good bus routes including to railway station. Just a few mins walk into the historical centre of Verona. Good security within building.

What could be improved: Problem accessing the apartment which was stressful- had not been provided with code. Had to message booking.com for this. Thankfully did receive this within a few minutes. (Hopefully will be resolved for future guests)
There is a pub downstairs which was not open for most nights we were there. The last 2 nights of our stay the noise of people in the street (smokers) was very loud, and was until 2am.
There were no cups for tea / coffee in the apartment so could not use the coffee maker.
[no washing up liquid or washing powder for the washing machine so bring your own]

  • Amazing stay in Verona! – Carlotta from Italy – 17 May 2025 (10/10)

Super nice apartment in the historical centre of Verona. Very silent and cosy, with a beautiful view on the rooftops of Verona. It’s comfy, clean and well connected to main services of the area. Plus, there is a very secure parking 2 mins away from the apartment. We defenitely recommend it.

    What could be improved: –

  • Exceptional – Bruno from Italy – 19 April 2025 (10/10)

La struttura è in una zona centralissima, ad un passo da Ponte Pietra e dal Teatro Romano. L'appartamento è nuovo, curato nei dettagli e davvero accogliente. Torneremo sicuramente!

What could be improved: Nulla..è andato tutto bene

  • Soggiorno a Verona – Massimo from Italy – 24 May 2025 (5/10)

-L’appartamento è pulito e ben posizionato vicino al centro.
-Va bene per un breve soggiorno di una o due persone.
-L’attrezzatura della cucina è molto essenziale.

What could be improved: -Nel sito viene indicato che l'appartamento è per 3 persone adulte, ma in realtà è stretto in 3 meglio in 2.

  • Very good – Matthias from Germany – 29 May 2025 (8/10)

  • Superb – Anonymous from Albania – 30 June 2025 (9/10)
