Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Sgarzerie Luxury Flat after a long train ride into Verona – you know, the kind where you’re dragging your suitcase over those uneven cobblestones that make everything rattle. It’s tucked away in Corte Sgarzarie, right in the historical heart of the city, on the first floor (which, honestly, means one flight of stairs – no elevator, so pack light if you’re not into that). I mean, Verona’s centro storico is all narrow alleys and hidden courtyards like this one, and finding the place felt like discovering a secret – you turn off Via Cappello, where Juliet’s House draws all the tourists with their love locks and selfies, and suddenly you’re in this quiet little corte that smells faintly of espresso from the bar downstairs and the river mist off the Adige nearby. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me with keys and a quick rundown – no fuss, just a friendly local who pointed out where to grab the best gelato on Via Mazzini, like two blocks away.

What really got me was stepping inside – this isn’t your standard hotel room; it’s a proper 120-square-meter flat with two bedrooms, all done up in that sleek luxury style that blends old Verona charm with modern touches. Think exposed brick walls (cool and textured under your fingers, especially on those humid summer evenings) and high ceilings that make the space feel even bigger, paired with a kitchen that’s actually stocked – I whipped up pasta one night using herbs from the market at Piazza delle Erbe, which is literally a five-minute stroll away. The beds? Super comfy, with linens that smell fresh, like they’ve just come off the line – though, well, the street below can get a bit noisy in the mornings with delivery scooters buzzing by, but it quiets down after dark, and earplugs sorted that out for me. There’s AC that hums softly (a godsend in July when Verona heats up like an oven), and the bathroom’s got this massive rain shower that makes you linger – oh, and free Wi-Fi that’s fast enough for streaming without buffering, which was clutch for planning day trips to Lake Garda. It’s rated 9.1 for a reason, you know? Sort of luxurious without being stuffy, and at four stars, it feels like a steal compared to the pricier spots near the Arena.

Honestly, if you’re heading to Verona – especially in spring when the cherry blossoms hit or during opera season at the Arena (book tickets early, trust me) – this flat’s a smart pick. Parking’s a nightmare in the centre, so I ditched the car at a garage on the outskirts and walked everywhere; it’s that central. You can wander to the Ponte Pietra for sunset views over the river, or hit up the little osterias on Via Sottoriva for aperitivo without ever needing a taxi. Sure, it’s not perfect – the stairs might be a drag with heavy bags, and there’s no on-site restaurant – but that’s part of the appeal, forcing you to dive into local life. I left feeling like I’d actually lived in Verona for a bit, not just visited, and that’s why I’d go back in a heartbeat. If you’re after space, style, and that authentic vibe, this place delivers – just watch out for those cobblestones on arrival.

This apartment was in an excellent location in the middle of the historic center of town. There was only one flight of stairs to get to the apartment and the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house. Everything was extremely clean and comfortable! There are plenty of restaurants and shopping right out of the door and even though it can be loud outside and very busy, you cannot hear anything inside the apartment with the windows closed. I would highly recommend this house for a small family or two couples! We hope to be back soon!

The location was amazing! We were so close to all the restaurants, bars, tourist sites, groceries. Right above a great cafe. Very quiet. So much ambience. Lovely aesthetics.

What could be improved: The door was a bit of a challenge.

  • Alexandra from Sint Maarten – 3 February 2025 (10/10)

Spacious apartment, everything there that you may need, perfect location to explore the beautiful city. Friendly and quick response and assistance from managers. Prepare to travel light, take a cab to the apartment (restricted area in old centre) and consider 2 flights of stairs and nothing is in your way for a great stay. Would stay here again.

Inizio dai complimenti allo staff, gentilissimi e disponibili.

What could be improved: Faccio fatica a trovare qualche difetto, se proprio devo, i cuscini non sono comodissimi.
