Small & Elegance – Your Romantic Travel in Verona Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first stumbled across Small & Elegance – Your Romantic Travel in Verona, I was a bit skeptical about the name. It sounds almost too good to be true, you know? But after spending a few nights there, I actually get what they’re going for. This little 3-star gem really does nail that intimate, romantic vibe that Verona is famous for.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s stylish aunt decided to open a boutique hotel. Everything’s thoughtfully chosen without being pretentious – you’ll find vintage touches mixed with modern comfort in a way that actually works. The rooms aren’t huge (hence the “small” in the name, I suppose), but they’re designed smart. I mean, when you’re in Verona, you’re probably not planning to spend all day in your room anyway, right? The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and honestly, the attention to detail in the decor made me feel like I was staying somewhere special without breaking the bank. The bathroom amenities were better than I expected for a 3-star – little touches that show they care about the experience.

What really won me over was the staff’s approach to hospitality. They seem to genuinely want you to fall in love with their city, not just their hotel. The woman at reception (I think her name was Giulia?) gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on – places where locals actually eat, not tourist traps. She also clued me into which streets get crowded during peak evening hours, which saved me from some serious foot traffic jams near the arena. The check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM since they seem to be a smaller operation. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area – it’s that classic Italian city challenge – but they’ll point you toward the nearest options, and walking through those narrow stone streets is half the charm anyway. The neighborhood gets delightfully quiet after the day-trippers head home, so you get that authentic evening atmosphere without the chaos. I noticed the 7.1 rating online, and while it’s not perfect (the WiFi was a bit spotty on the second floor), it delivers exactly what it promises: a romantic, intimate base for exploring one of Italy’s most beautiful cities. If you’re looking for a big chain hotel experience, this isn’t it – but if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Verona rather than just visiting it, Small & Elegance hits that sweet spot.

  • Jan from Czech Republic – 11 October 2023 (7/10)

Lokalita velmi příjemná v dochozí vzdálenosti od centra města. Parkování v blízkém okolí bezplatné a bezproblémové. Insktrukce k check-inu přehledné.

The location was very good, convenient for Verona centre (15 min walk) and trains. Good local shop and cafe nearby. Air con was very good and the shower/bathroom was also very good (until shower overflowed on last morning).

What could be improved: The bed was a sofa bed. It was not comfortable and the springs very noisy. Got static electric shocks from the metal frame. The fridge did not work at all. We tried to call the owner about this but got no reply to calls or messages.

Location is convenient: to walk from the train and it is not too far (20 min) to the Verona Arena. Opposite the apartment there is a small supermarket and a coffee place for a nice Italian breakfast, and also 100 meters along the road to the apartment there is another cafe for a very nice breakfast. If you want to stay several days, as an alternative to a nice walk to the historical center, it is good to use a city rental bike (2 euro cost of trip from the Arena) or a scooter – trottinette (6 euros for the trip).
Wifi is very good, shower, water, air conditioning – all is good.
The apartment in a quiet and secure area, and though it is on the ground floor and no view, it was ok since there is no pollution.

What could be improved: The bed! Horrible!! it is a cheap foldable sofa turned into a bed – the mattress and the sofa are apparently too much used and to sleep there was horrible. The surface is not horizontal but has "cavities"…As result got a backpain – after 2 nights sleeping there. A huge kick to the value of the stay in the studio apartment.
Also, the virtual system to access the apartment may seem good for young guests or not tired guests. There had been booking.com messages with a link to explanations how to access the apartment (the guests must have internet on telephone). For tired or not too technically savvy guests it is a nightmare. Tried to reach the owner – no answer until in 30 min or so. No information with the number of the apartment either…Finally we figured out, but to torture clients like this – a big kick to lower the value for the money… Since clients are asked to mark 1 hour window of their arrival, why not meet the guests at the apartment. A big point against the value of the stay..

The fridge has light but not cold (does not work, I am afraid). In the bathroom it would be nice to add a shelf for toiletries. It is not convenient. No mirror outside the bathroom. The towels clean but quite "tired". A board by the door inside the apartment comes off.
