Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Sona’s Home on Stradone Porta Palio – you know, that wide street right by the old city gate that sort of marks the edge of Verona’s historical center. It’s not smack in the middle of the tourist chaos like around Piazza delle Erbe, but honestly, that’s what I loved about it. I arrived in the late afternoon during a sweltering July day, and finding parking was a bit of a hassle – the street’s got that typical Italian mix of scooters and delivery vans zipping around, so I ended up circling for ten minutes before snagging a spot a block away (pro tip: if you’re driving, check for the nearby public lots near Castelvecchio to save yourself the headache). Check-in was a breeze, though; the owner – I think her name was actually Sona, or at least that’s what the plaque said – greeted me with this warm, no-fuss vibe, handing over the keys and pointing out a little map of hidden spots locals use to avoid the crowds. The building itself has that classic Verona charm, with those weathered stone walls and wrought-iron balconies that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard, but without the over-the-top luxury pretension.
What really won me over was how the place balances comfort with that authentic, lived-in feel – it’s rated a solid 9 for a reason, I mean, the rooms are spacious enough for a 4-star spot, with these big windows letting in the morning light (and yeah, a faint whiff of espresso from the cafe downstairs). My room overlooked the street, so there was some early morning bustle from folks heading to the market on Corso Porta Nuova, but it quieted down by nightfall, and the double-glazed windows kept out most of the noise – well, except for the occasional church bell from San Zeno, which is just a short walk away and totally worth the detour for its ancient basilica vibes. I appreciated the little touches, like the fresh linens that smelled faintly of lavender (probably from some local soap), and the mini-fridge stocked with regional wines – nothing fancy, but it felt thoughtful. Exploring from there was easy; you’re basically a 10-minute stroll from the Arena, where I caught an opera under the stars (book tickets early if you’re visiting in summer, it gets packed), or you could wander over to the Adige River for a quieter evening gelato. Oh, and if you’re into food, there’s this unassuming trattoria around the corner on Via Sottoriva – order the risotto all’Amarone, it’s divine and way cheaper than the tourist traps.
All in all, I’d say Sona’s Home is perfect if you’re after that genuine Verona experience without feeling like you’re in a hotel factory. It’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during peak hours, and breakfast is simple continental stuff (croissants, yogurt, that sort of thing) rather than a full spread – but for the price and location, it’s a gem. I stayed during the off-season shoulder in September, when the crowds thin out and the air has that crisp, autumn edge, making walks to Juliet’s House (overrated, but fun) even more enjoyable. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, book it – you’ll leave feeling like you’ve actually connected with the city, not just passed through.

A spotless, stylish, and quiet apartment in a great location—excellent value for money. – Sebastian from Spain – 2 May 2025 (10/10)
The value for money was excellent (we paid €194 for two nights including city tax).
The apartment was fantastic—brand new, spotless, spacious, and extremely comfortable. Everything felt high quality, from the furniture to the towels. It’s very well located: just besides the city center and main attractions, yet just far enough from the noisy streets to enjoy some peace.
What could be improved: Trying to find some constructive feedback here, as everything went great.
The check-in instructions were sent just as we arrived, which could be tricky if you don’t have a strong internet connection whilst travelling. That said, the instructions were clear and included a video—receiving them a bit earlier would’ve made things smoother.Bad – Osama from Israel – 15 July 2025 (1/10)
Nothing
What could be improved: Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The communication with the hosts was very poor — they rarely responded to calls or messages. The property was difficult to locate, and the surrounding area felt dark and a bit unsettling. I would not recommend this place to other travelersExceptional – Ewa from Poland – 15 July 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Ci è piaciuto tutto!Very good – Tommaso from Italy – 23 June 2025 (8/10)
Letto matrimoniale comodo e fresco.
Host super accogliente, gentile e disponibile.
Exceptional – Marion from France – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
