Hotel Description

I stumbled upon Stelle di Verona – Sirio last summer when I was chasing that perfect mix of old-world charm and not breaking the bank in Verona – you know, the city that’s all romance and ancient stones, but can feel overwhelming if you’re not careful. Tucked away on Alto San Nazaro, just a short huff up from the Adige River, it’s in this residential pocket that’s refreshingly low-key compared to the tourist crush around Piazza delle Erbe. I mean, honestly, after dodging selfie sticks near Juliet’s balcony all day, coming back here felt like a sigh of relief. The building itself is one of those unassuming Italian townhouses, painted in soft ochre with wrought-iron balconies – nothing flashy, but it blends right into the neighborhood. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this chatty guy named Marco (I think?), handed over the keys with a genuine smile and a tip about the best gelato spot on Via Cappello, which is just a 10-minute stroll away. Oh, and parking – well, it’s Verona, so spots are like gold, but they have a few reserved ones out back if you book ahead. I remember the faint scent of blooming jasmine from the courtyard as I lugged my bag up the stairs (no elevator, mind you, but it’s only a couple of floors, and it adds to that authentic vibe).

What really won me over, though, was how this 3-star spot punches way above its weight – that 9.7 rating isn’t hype; it’s earned. My room was compact, sure, sort of like a cozy nest with exposed beams and crisp white linens that smelled freshly laundered, but it had these little touches that made it feel special: a balcony overlooking the rooftops toward the hills, where I sipped espresso at dawn listening to church bells from nearby San Nazaro. Breakfast? Forget the usual buffet slop – they serve it in this sunny terrace area with homemade croissants, local cheeses, and prosciutto that’s sliced right there, plus cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead. I chatted with other guests, mostly Europeans on repeat visits, about wandering to the Roman Theatre across the river (it’s literally a five-minute walk to Ponte Pietra, that ancient bridge with the best sunset views). Evenings were quiet – no street noise seeping in, which is a miracle in a city that buzzes late into the night during opera season at the Arena. If there’s a nitpick, it’s that the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, but hey, who needs endless scrolling when you’re in Verona? I actually used the downtime to plan a detour to the lesser-known Giardino Giusti gardens, which are a hidden gem just uphill.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting – dodging the crowds but still close enough to pop into a trattoria on Via Sottoriva for aperitivo – this place is gold. It’s not for those seeking luxury spas or infinity pools (it’s 3 stars, after all), but for authentic immersion on a budget, it’s spot-on. I left feeling like I’d found a secret – and honestly, with rates that don’t sting, I’d book it again in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season when the city’s magic really shines without the summer hordes. El anfitrión es súper atento.

  • Giuseppe from Italy – 3 March 2025 (10/10)

    Parcheggio, alloggio, pulizia, disponibilità sempre attiva da parte degli host verso le eventuali richieste di assistenza.

    What could be improved: In genere non sono molto dedito a fare recensioni, ma in questo caso farò eccezione;

    Non mi è piaciuto sicuramente il cane della vicina (appartamento frontale) che, lasciato solo, abbaiava da pomeriggio a tarda serata provocando così un disagio sul piano sonoro (per chi è sensibile ai suoni ed ha sonno leggero rappresenta un'interferenza), anche se sono consapevole non sia responsabilità da parte degli host e non dipenda da loro.
    Da parte loro però ci hanno offerto tutto l'aiuto possibile nel farlo presente a chi di dovere. Host super gentili a cui siamo molto grati.

  • Diogo from Brazil – 21 January 2025 (10/10)

    What could be improved: Jedina zamjerka,ali mala jeste parking!Zasto?

  • Cristina from Italy – 10 January 2025 (10/10)

  • Lampros from Greece – 4 January 2025 (10/10)

    What could be improved: Η πρόσβαση ήταν λίγο κουραστική,

  • Nazarenko from Ukraine – 18 December 2024 (10/10)
