Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Sunny Home on Corso Porta Nuova – you know, that bustling stretch right in Verona’s historical center where the old city gates kind of loom over everything. It’s not some flashy spot; honestly, from the outside, it looks like one of those unassuming Italian buildings with faded stucco and those classic wrought-iron balconies that scream “lived-in Verona.” But man, the location is a total win if you’re into wandering on foot. I mean, I stepped out the door and was at the Arena di Verona in like 10 minutes – perfect for catching an opera if you’re there in summer, though fair warning, those crowds can get insane around July and August. And if you’re coming from the train station, it’s an easy stroll down the corso, dodging scooters and locals grabbing espresso at those tiny bars along the way. Parking? Well, it’s Italy, so it’s a bit of a hassle – there’s no on-site lot, but I snagged a spot in one of those nearby paid garages off Via Pallone, which wasn’t too bad on the wallet.

Inside, it’s got that cozy, family-run vibe that makes you feel like you’re crashing at a friend’s place rather than a hotel. The lobby’s small – think tiled floors that echo a bit when you drag your suitcase in – but the staff are super welcoming, chatting away in that mix of Italian and English about the best spots for aperitivo (try the little enoteca on Via Mazzini, by the way; their spritz is killer). My room was on the third floor, nothing huge, but clean and bright with these big windows letting in that golden Verona sunlight – hence the name, I suppose. The bed was comfy enough, though the pillows were a tad flat; I ended up stacking them for support after a long day exploring. Breakfast is served in this sunny little room downstairs – fresh croissants, cappuccino that actually tastes like it’s from a proper machine, and those jars of Nutella that make you feel like a kid again. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Solid, which was a lifesaver for mapping out walks to Juliet’s House or Piazza delle Erbe. Noise-wise, it’s right on the corso, so you might hear some evening traffic or church bells from nearby San Fermo – sort of charming at first, but earplugs helped on busier nights.

All in all, if you’re looking for a no-frills base in Verona that doesn’t break the bank but still feels authentic, Sunny Home’s your spot. It’s rated an 8.1 for a reason – solid value in a city that can get pricey, especially during the opera festival. I stayed there last spring, and it made hopping between gelato stops and ancient ruins a breeze. Just pack light, embrace the stairs (the elevator’s tiny), and you’ll love it. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat for that morning smell of baking bread wafting up from the street below.

Reviews

  • An excellent base for exploring Verona as a family or couple. – Emma from Australia – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Soaring ceiling heights, comfortable beds, location close to station, quiet

What could be improved: Very little. Some more useful spoons would have been handy but that’s all.

  • Very good – Ilona from Ukraine – 1 September 2024 (8/10)

Super location in the city center. Rather big rooms. Good interior.

What could be improved: Too late check in time (16-00)

  • Verona for a week – Rennie from United Kingdom – 30 July 2024 (9/10)

Quiet and clean. Easy to prepare breakfast and cook food although we mostly lived on salads. Lots of cafes within easy walking distance as are the bus and train stations. Possible to walk into the old town and arena and walking back from the Opera at 2 in the morning was a joy..

What could be improved: The only problem was the air conditioning which was either fully on or off. No control seemed possible. However we were in Verona with temperatures of 36C so fully on was perfect for daytime and long into the evening. Getting into the apartment was tricky on arrival but with the keys was easy.

  • Very functional and economically suited for a couple , 2 friends or family with 1 or 2 children – Marsha from United States – 27 May 2024 (8/10)

Location was great and the apartment was comfortable

What could be improved: A little difficult to find as the map link took us to the wrong house number

  • Very good – Hagit from Israel – 14 August 2023 (8/10)

A spacious apartment for three adults.
    equipped kitchen.
close to the train and bus stations so it was easy to travel out of Verona (Lake Garda area)

What could be improved: No AC at the living room, only at the main bedroom. we left the door open so the cool air flow to the living room.

  • Superb – Catarina from Portugal – 28 August 2022 (9/10)

Location, accomodation size and facilities, cleanness

What could be improved: The standart check in time is at 16, a bit late, yet they were kind enough to help us arrange a solution.

  • Very good – Manal from Saudi Arabia – 12 June 2025 (8/10)

Clean rooms and the host made us check in early

  • Great location – Gunita from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location. Flat has everything you need for staying in Verona

What could be improved: Check in system…. would preferred normal keys, not these digital keys! Always need to worry about the phone having Internet or enough battery to get in a flat after a long day out….
Lift and gates too narrow – struggled to get in with a pram!

  • Very good – Ellen from Ireland – 30 June 2024 (8/10)

They allowed us to drop our bags early even though flat wasn't ready as we were very early. The location is very convenient for the train station and the town.

What could be improved: The entry requires internet. The process was clear but I found it irritating. Would have preferred to use code/key. They did provide keys for entry gates after 1st time. Also couldn't find the wifi password, host didn't respond to request until after we left, then he somewhat cheekily pointed out it was on another tab on the door opening app. We looked in normal place on modem!

  • Great location, clean apartment. Would choose this place again. – Michaela from Czech Republic – 30 May 2024 (9/10)

Read the navigation of how to get in and it will be very easy. The system was a bit difficult to follow at the beginning, but all sorted at the end.

What could be improved: Sleeping on the sofa in the kitchen is a bit tricky as the boiler is noisy. Other than that, we had an amazing time. Apartment was cosy and clean. Great location!
