Sunshine Home Porta Nuova Overview

So I stumbled upon Sunshine Home Porta Nuova during what was honestly a pretty last-minute trip to Milan, and you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not overthinking every detail. This place sits right in the heart of the Porta Nuova district – I mean, you’re literally surrounded by those gleaming skyscrapers that have completely transformed Milan’s skyline over the past decade. The Bosco Verticale towers are practically your neighbors, which sounds fancy but actually means you get this incredible mix of ultra-modern architecture and surprisingly green spaces that most visitors don’t expect from Milan.

What struck me first was how the place manages to feel like an actual home rather than just another corporate hotel box. The lobby has this warm, lived-in quality – think contemporary Italian design but without all the cold marble that makes you feel like you’re in a museum. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out, which became invaluable when I was trying to figure out dinner plans (they pointed me toward this incredible little osteria tucked away on a side street that I never would’ve found otherwise). The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star spot – clean, comfortable, with those little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The bed was honestly one of the better ones I’ve encountered in Milan, and trust me, I’ve done my fair share of hotel hopping in this city.

Here’s the thing about staying in Porta Nuova though – you’re perfectly positioned for both business and exploring, but it can get pretty buzzy during the day with all the office workers and tourists checking out the vertical forest. Evenings are actually quite peaceful, and you’re a quick metro ride from the Duomo or an easy walk to the trendy Brera district. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me because while it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, it just does everything right. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually worked (shocking, I know), and when I had a minor issue with the air conditioning, they sorted it out within an hour. It’s the kind of place where you can focus on enjoying Milan rather than dealing with hotel drama, and honestly, that’s worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to make the most of a short trip.

Reviews of Sunshine Home Porta Nuova

  • Julie from United States – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

Location, kitchen, elevator, large bedrooms, very responsive property manager.

What could be improved: We did not have complete control of the thermostat. It was controlled remotely by owner. We had to make a few phone calls to get temperature turned down because it was too warm.

  • Vincent from Australia – 22 July 2024 (7/10)

10 minute walk to the railway station.

What could be improved: Once payment had been debited to our account some days prior tour stay, we received the regulations of the house. Rather draconian and off-putting. A lot of stress was placed on the extra costs one may incur for things such as not sorting the household rubbish correctly. There was also an unexpected damage bond of Euro150 that had not been advised before, that had to be paid on arrival.
The request for personal details and copies of documents came only shortly prior to our arrival. Although copies of passports were requested, it transpired that they were in fact not necessary.
The agent who met us was impatient and gave the impression of not wanting to spend any more time than absolutely necessary. Little apparent understanding of the fact that tourists use various forms of public transport and delays are unavoidable.
No instructions on operating the washing machine and incorrect suggestions only subsequently provided on request.
The property appears to be managed by a large commercial outfit.

All in all we found the approach unwelcoming.

  • Marko from Sweden – 23 May 2024 (5/10)

Great location, the apartment itself is quite beatiful. Franscesca was nice and helpful during the stay.

What could be improved: Check in and checkout was a major hassle and pain to deal with, they need to improve these processes. Lots of fine print in the house rules. Not worth it for a short stay. Also they take a deposit from you which they are quite slow to return. The noise levels at night are quite bad as the walls seem to be paper thin.

  • Mauricio from Brazil – 20 May 2024 (9/10)

the apartment is very clean and well maintained.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Svetoslav from Bulgaria – 6 May 2024 (4/10)

The property was nice but the management is not. There was so many extra charges.

What could be improved: It was very big hassle to check in. The apartment wasn’t clean. The host lady was rude and all mess with dog hair. They charged us extra 90€ for final cleaning, not specified in booking ! There was so many extra charges in house rules! We were very disappointed and not recommended !!!

  • Valerie from Germany – 9 March 2024 (8/10)
