Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Truly Verona – Delle Erbe Suites almost by accident last summer, right in the heart of Verona’s historical center. I’d been wandering from Piazza delle Erbe – you know, that bustling square with the old market stalls and the Madonna Verona fountain spraying away in the heat – and turned down this narrow little alley, Vicoletto Cieco Pozzo San Marco, which honestly feels like stepping back into medieval times with its uneven cobblestones and ivy-clinging walls. The address is tucked away at 11/A, and let me tell you, if you’re driving, good luck finding parking; the historical center’s a nightmare for cars, especially during opera season at the Arena when everything’s jammed. I ended up ditching mine at a lot near the Adige River and walking the last bit, which wasn’t bad – about 10 minutes, dodging gelato-eating tourists on Via Mazzini. Check-in was a breeze, though; the host, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think? Or was it Paolo?), greeted me with a glass of chilled Prosecco and a quick rundown of the best nearby spots, like that hidden osteria on Via Sottoriva for authentic risotto all’Amarone. The building itself is this charming renovated palazzo – four stars, but it feels more boutique than chain-hotel stiff – with exposed brick and wooden beams that give off this warm, lived-in vibe, like you’re crashing at a stylish friend’s place rather than a sterile room.

What really won me over were the suites themselves – spacious, with these massive windows overlooking the alley (quiet at night, surprisingly, even with the occasional Vespa buzzing by early morning). Mine had a little kitchenette stocked with fresh espresso pods and those addictive amaretti cookies, which came in handy after long days exploring. Honestly, the bed was a dream, all plush linens and that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough without feeling swallowed – I slept like a log, despite the faint church bells from the Duomo chiming at dawn (a minor quirk, but hey, it’s Verona, what do you expect?). The bathroom? Sleek marble with rain showers that actually have good pressure, not the dribble you get in some older spots. And the location – well, it’s unbeatable if you’re into that romantic, walk-everywhere energy. I mean, Juliet’s House is literally a five-minute stroll away, though it’s touristy as heck in July; better to hit it early morning before the crowds descend. There’s no full restaurant on-site, which is a small downside if you’re lazy like me after sightseeing, but you’re steps from Piazza Bra’s cafes – grab a spritz at one of those outdoor tables and people-watch the evening passeggiata. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s solid, which mattered when I was uploading photos of the Torre dei Lamberti view.

All in all, with its 9.3 rating, Truly Verona nails that sweet spot between luxury and authenticity – not over-the-top fancy, but thoughtful touches that make you feel at home in a city that’s all about love stories and ancient stones. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when the wisteria blooms and it’s less hectic. If you’re planning a trip, book ahead; it fills up fast for good reason. Just pack comfy shoes for those cobbles – trust me, your feet will thank you.

The location and the kindness of the host.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect!!

  • Formiga89 from United Kingdom – 3 April 2025 (10/10)

The location is simply amazing. You have a beautiful view of the old city center square (Piazza Erbe), directly from your spacious bedroom. The suite we had is high up in the building. The space has this lovely charm of an old Italian house. The room was furthermore very spatious and the staff nicely decorated it for our 1 year anniversary. Please see the appended pictures.

Unfortunately, I forgot my phone at the place, which we only noticed after we already boarded a train to Bellano at lake Como. However, this was not a big issue as our hostess quickly send it back using a courier. Thanks again for that!

What could be improved: There is really not much that could have been better. There was some hair, I gues from the previous guests shaving, left on one of the soap dispensers. Apart from that the bedroom and bathroom were clean.

  • Cheryl-ann from Australia – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The mattress …but minor compared to the rest of the oroperty

Our stay here was so perfect. Petra went above and beyond to make the room so romantic and cosy, it was perfect. And she was so helpful when we thought we lost our keys too! The room is very clean and well kept, and so charming and beautiful in design. The location couldn't be any better, right on Piazza Erbe, you're right in the heart of Verona. We will definitely be booking to stay again.
