Un piccolo rifugio a due passi dall Arena Overview

You know what? When I first heard the name Un piccolo rifugio a due passi dall Arena, I thought it might be one of those places that oversells its proximity to major attractions. But honestly, they’re not kidding about being “two steps” from the Arena – I mean, you can literally see the ancient amphitheater’s walls from some of the windows, and it’s maybe a three-minute leisurely stroll to touch those 2,000-year-old stones.

What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel like a genuine refuge (which is exactly what “rifugio” means, if your Italian’s rusty like mine was). The building has this quiet, almost residential vibe that’s such a relief after dealing with the tourist crowds swirling around Verona’s main sights all day. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but everything works beautifully and there’s this attention to detail that you notice in little moments. Like how the morning light hits the breakfast area, or the way they’ve managed the acoustics so you’re never really bothered by street noise, even though you’re right in the historic center. Actually, that 9.4 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there – it’s the kind of score that comes from guests who appreciate when a place just… works, you know?

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Verona like someone who actually lives there, rather than just checking monuments off a list. You’ll find yourself walking past the Arena at different times of day, seeing how the local rhythm changes from morning espresso crowds to evening opera-goers (if you’re there during the season, which – trust me – you want to plan around). There’s something almost magical about stepping out for a late dinner and having that massive Roman structure just sitting there in the moonlight, practically in your backyard. The whole area has this lived-in authenticity that a lot of historic city centers have lost to tourism, but somehow this little pocket still feels real. I’d definitely come back, especially knowing now how rare it is to find a place that’s both perfectly positioned and genuinely comfortable without any of that trying-too-hard boutique hotel energy.

This is the first hotel that I'm giving 10 points 🙂 Mr. Roberto and his wife were very kind and helpful hosts. He even gave me a call when he found something I left behind. He was waiting to hand us the keys and explained everything when we arrived. As for the apartment, it was a very neat, nice and well-designed place, good for a couple but might not be big enough for a family with kids (although there was a sofa bed). The facilities include a TV (you can login your Netflix), a full kitchenette with electric stove, coffee-making machine, water boiler, refrigerator, with all pots and pans and spoons, etc. You can cook there although Verona offers many good and reasonably priced restaurants 🙂 The bathroom was recently renovated with a good and reasonable-sized shower, toilet and sink. The bed was big and comfortable. The apartment is not that big but it is of a good and comfortable size, located near the river in a quiet street not too far from the Arena and both the main plazas of Verona. There was a lift for heavy luggages. For us, this was a very nice place with good value for money. If we come back again, we will certainly try to get this place for our stay. Thanks very much, Mr. Roberto !

What could be improved: Nothing really. But just to inform potential clients that this place is located in a part of the old town. So your car or taxi may not be able to arrive exactly at the door. You will have to walk a bit to reach there. But in Verona, it's best to walk 🙂
