I stumbled across it during my second trip to Verona – actually, I was pretty tired of staying near the crowded historic center where you can barely sleep past sunrise because of all the tour groups gathering outside.

The Zona Fiera location is actually brilliant if you think about it. Sure, you’re not literally next to Juliet’s balcony, but here’s the thing – you can walk to the old town in about fifteen minutes, and when you come back after a long day of sightseeing, you’re in this quieter neighborhood where locals actually live. I mean, there’s something refreshing about hearing Italian families going about their daily routines instead of constant camera clicks. The area around the hotel has these little cafes where the barista remembers your order by day three, and honestly, that’s worth more than being able to see the Arena from your window. Plus, parking here doesn’t require selling a kidney, which anyone who’s driven in Italian city centers will appreciate.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually care about the details – and I don’t mean in that overly rehearsed hotel school way. When I mentioned I was heading to Lake Garda the next day, the front desk guy (Paolo, I think?) spent like ten minutes drawing me a route that avoided the tourist traffic jams. The rooms have this modern-meets-classical Italian thing going on that could’ve been tacky but somehow works. The beds are properly firm – thank god, because I’d just spent three nights in Florence on what felt like a marshmallow. Air conditioning that actually cools the room? Revolutionary for a European hotel, honestly. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but everything tastes like it came from actual local suppliers rather than those industrial hotel food services. Their coffee alone justifies the stay, and I say that as someone who’s pretty particular about espresso.

Look, it’s not perfect – the elevator makes this slightly concerning grinding noise, and if you’re on the street-facing side, you’ll hear some traffic in the morning. But the 8.4 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s one of those places where you feel like you discovered something the guidebooks haven’t completely ruined yet. The neighborhood gives you a real sense of how people live in Verona beyond the Shakespeare tourism machine, and after staying here, I realized I’d been missing out by always booking right in the historic center. Sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you’re not trying so hard to be in the middle of everything.

  L'appartamento è bellissimo, arredato con gusto, pulito e spazio ma e soprattutto la disponibilità e la gentilezza di Laura, la host che ha gestito il mio check-in ie check out con zelo e professionalità a darmi la serenità di cui ha bisogno chi come me viaggia per lavoro. I vicini di casa sono simpatici e cordiali oltre che gentili e sorridenti, mi sono sentita proprio a casa.

  Very nice place for staying, very spacious, quiet area, in the flat there is everything what you need even coffee machine with some capsules, washing machine and washing liquid, soap etc. and perfect location if you need Verona Fiera. Very satisfied.
