Verona Walls Overview

You know what struck me first about Verona Walls? The name actually makes perfect sense once you see it – this place sits right where you can practically touch the ancient city walls that wrap around Verona‘s historic center. I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels that claim some connection to local history, but this one genuinely feels like it grew out of the medieval stones themselves.

The whole experience feels refreshingly authentic without trying too hard. The lobby has this understated elegance – think warm lighting and local marble, not flashy chandeliers screaming “look at me.” What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the city beyond the usual tourist script. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he started talking about this little osteria his grandmother frequents, complete with directions through the side streets that avoid the evening crowds on Via Mazzini. That kind of local insight you just can’t fake, and honestly, it made all the difference.

The rooms hit that sweet spot between historic charm and modern comfort. Sure, you’re not getting cookie-cutter contemporary design, but that’s exactly the point. My room had these gorgeous exposed beams (actual old ones, not decorative fake ones) and windows that opened onto a quiet courtyard where you could hear church bells instead of traffic. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious – I was half expecting one of those European shower-in-a-phone-booth situations, but they’d clearly renovated thoughtfully. What really impressed me was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days: good reading lights, plenty of outlets, and thick curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you want to sleep in after a late night exploring the aperitivo scene.

Location-wise, you’re close enough to walk to Juliet’s balcony and the Arena in about ten minutes, but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you feel like you’re discovering the real Verona. I loved being able to duck back for an afternoon rest without fighting through crowds, then head out again for evening passeggiata when the locals take over the streets. The neighborhood has that perfect mix of everyday Italian life – there’s a fantastic pasticceria around the corner where construction workers grab their morning cornetti alongside well-dressed businesspeople, and a little alimentari that stays open late when you need emergency wine or forgot to pack enough socks.

With a 9.3 rating, this place clearly knows what it’s doing, and after spending four nights there, I get why people keep coming back. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in town – it’s just really, really good at being exactly what you want when you’re exploring one of Italy’s most romantic cities and need a genuine home base that feels connected to the place rather than dropped in by some international hotel chain.

The host Roberto was amazingly friendly, it was easy to communicate with him. He answered all our questions quickly and we always got some extra information as well. Althought we arrived a little bit late, the host waited us and explaned everything we needed to know. And there were some snacks and beverages waiting for us in the frigde. I forgot my watch when we left and Roberto mailed it back to me right away, I can't thank him enough for that! The apartment was very pleasant, clean and the location was perfect, near of everything but peaceful and quiet surroundings. I highly recommed, especially for couples or friends traveling together!

  • Christine from United Kingdom – 18 May 2024 (9/10)

The location was brilliant. Just across the river from the historic centre but in a historic neighbourhood full of charisma. The host Roberto was so helpful and gave us recommendations for restaurants which were places he eats himself.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Tolly from United Kingdom – 3 April 2024 (8/10)

Quirky and unique place to stay. Great location. Comfortable apartment with a lot of space and a nice atmosphere. Good range of kitchen facilities

What could be improved: The shower temperature sometimes went extremely hot or cold without warning. The downstairs toilet can’t be used with the washing machine in the way but since there’s an upstairs one this wasn’t a big issue

Roberto's apartment was beautiful and full of character. There was a very well equipped kitchen complete with complementary tea, coffee, snacks etc which were great when arriving on a late flight. Communication with Roberto was great and he was extremely helpful. Good location in a quiet area yet the old town was a short walk away. Verona is beautiful!
