Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Verona Walls on Via Gaetano Trezza – it’s this unassuming little street in the Veronetta neighborhood, you know, just across the Adige River from the main historic center. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first because Verona can feel so overrun with tourists around the Arena or Juliet’s House, but this spot? It’s tucked away enough that you get that authentic, lived-in vibe without the constant buzz. I mean, you’re only a 10-minute stroll from Ponte Pietra, that ancient stone bridge where locals grab gelato at sunset, or you can wander over to the Giardino Giusti gardens if you’re into those manicured Renaissance hedges. Parking was a lifesaver too – they have a small lot out back, which is gold in a city where street spots vanish faster than espresso shots. Checked in around dusk after a long drive from Lake Garda, and the staff were all smiles, chatting about the best nearby osteria on Via Sottoriva for some Amarone wine. No hassle, just handed over the key and pointed out the elevator – oh, and fair warning, it’s one of those narrow European ones, so pack light if you’re hauling suitcases.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a cozy extension of Verona itself. The name “Verona Walls” nods to the old city fortifications nearby – you can actually spot remnants from some room windows, all ivy-covered and glowing in the morning light. My room was on the third floor, sort of compact but spotless, with these thick stone walls that keep things blissfully quiet even when the university crowd (it’s close to the campus) is out late. The bed? Plush as anything, linens crisp and cool – I slept like a rock after hearing faint church bells from San Tomaso across the way. Breakfast downstairs is a highlight – fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and that nutty aroma of brewing coffee filling the air; it’s buffet-style but not chaotic, unless you hit peak July when tour groups descend. Well, maybe a minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times in the evening, but hey, who needs it when you’ve got a balcony overlooking the rooftops? They even have a little lounge area with books on Verona’s history – I spent an afternoon flipping through one, learning about the Scaligeri family who basically built the town.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star stay that doesn’t scream “tourist trap” but delivers on that 9.3 rating with genuine charm, Verona Walls is it. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to dip into the action – like catching an opera at the Arena – then retreat to somewhere peaceful. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a local secret, you know? Skip the overpriced spots in the centro storico; this one’s got the heart of Verona without the hefty price tag or the noise. Just book ahead in summer – it fills up quick.

The host Roberto was amazingly friendly, it was easy to communicate with him. He answered all our questions quickly and we always got some extra information as well. Althought we arrived a little bit late, the host waited us and explaned everything we needed to know. And there were some snacks and beverages waiting for us in the frigde. I forgot my watch when we left and Roberto mailed it back to me right away, I can't thank him enough for that! The apartment was very pleasant, clean and the location was perfect, near of everything but peaceful and quiet surroundings. I highly recommed, especially for couples or friends traveling together!

The location was brilliant. Just across the river from the historic centre but in a historic neighbourhood full of charisma. The host Roberto was so helpful and gave us recommendations for restaurants which were places he eats himself.

    What could be improved: Nothing

Quirky and unique place to stay. Great location. Comfortable apartment with a lot of space and a nice atmosphere. Good range of kitchen facilities

What could be improved: The shower temperature sometimes went extremely hot or cold without warning. The downstairs toilet can’t be used with the washing machine in the way but since there’s an upstairs one this wasn’t a big issue

Roberto's apartment was beautiful and full of character. There was a very well equipped kitchen complete with complementary tea, coffee, snacks etc which were great when arriving on a late flight. Communication with Roberto was great and he was extremely helpful. Good location in a quiet area yet the old town was a short walk away. Verona is beautiful!
