Hotel Description

I remember pulling into Verona on a balmy spring evening last year, the kind where the sun hangs low over the Adige River and everything smells faintly of blooming wisteria mixed with espresso from the corner cafés. VeronaJourneys isn’t your typical single-building hotel—it’s more like a collection of charming spots scattered through the historical center, you know, around places like Via Mazzini or tucked away near Piazza delle Erbe. I stayed in one of their apartments on a quiet side street off Corso Porta Borsari, which honestly felt like stepping into a local’s life rather than some sterile chain setup. Check-in was a breeze; they sent me a code for the door ahead of time—no fussing with a front desk at odd hours—and inside, it was all exposed brick walls and those creaky wooden floors that make you feel like you’re in an old Italian novel. The place was spotless, with a little kitchenette that came in handy for whipping up breakfast from the market stalls nearby. Oh, and parking—well, that’s always a headache in the centro storico, but they hooked me up with a spot in a nearby garage for a reasonable fee, which saved me from circling forever like I did once in Florence.

What really won me over, though, was how it puts you right in the thick of Verona without the overwhelming tourist crush—sort of. You’re steps from the Arena, where you can hear the faint echoes of opera rehearsals in summer if you crack a window, but my spot was far enough from the main drag that nights were peaceful, just the occasional scooter buzzing by or church bells tolling softly. The rooms aren’t massive, I mean, it’s a 4-star setup with an 8.6 rating for a reason—not luxury palace vibes, but cozy and authentic, with plush linens that smelled freshly laundered and a shower that actually had decent pressure (a rarity in some older European buildings). I loved wandering out in the mornings to grab a cappuccino at that tiny bar on Via Cappello—yep, the one near Juliet’s House, but avoid the crowds by going early. Honestly, it’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to feel immersed; families might find the stairs a bit of a workout, no elevators in these historic spots. And during peak season, like July when everyone’s flocking to the opera festival, book ahead because these places fill up fast, but off-season in fall? It’s blissfully quiet, with that crisp air carrying hints of roasting chestnuts from street vendors.

All in all, if you’re heading to Verona and craving something that feels real—not just a bed to crash in—VeronaJourneys is a solid pick. It’s got that intangible charm that makes you linger a bit longer, maybe skipping the train to Venice just to explore more hidden alleys. Sure, the Wi-Fi could be snappier for work calls, but who comes to Italy for that anyway? I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little secret of the city, and isn’t that what travel’s all about?

Reviews

  • Fiorella from United States – 9 March 2025 (9/10)

    The apartment is a 10/10.
5 minutes walking to the old town ( is like in front ). Location is great, hosts Licia and Gaia also great, Gaia made a whole itinerary of things we should do and restaurants we should try, she was super sweet!
Thank you again for this amazing stay!!

  • Lori from Canada – 26 October 2024 (9/10)

It was lovely, clean and very well situated. Gaia was very informative and helpful at check-in. They also allowed us a later check-out. Much appreciated.

What could be improved: Not a thing.

  • Lucas from Austria – 9 October 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: You can hear everything like the shower from above, etc.

  • Susan from Australia – 12 September 2024 (9/10)

    Loved Licia’s attention to details.
Her advice on what to see was excellent.
    Loved having washing facilities

What could be improved: Maybe an extra power point (or two) would make it easier to have kettle and phone charge happen at same time.

  • Sjoerd from Netherlands – 20 August 2024 (9/10)

    – The location is perfect with a wonderful view of the city
    – The host is very friendly and helpful

What could be improved: – Parking in Verona is expensive (EUR 20 per day in the garage), parking on the street where the apartment is, is only for residents, other street parking is often full

  • Lesley from United Kingdom – 4 May 2024 (9/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Had a slight problem with ants

  • Hindley from United Kingdom – 11 April 2024 (9/10)

Host was absolutely great. The location itself is idyllic and perfectly located on the river. A fantastic stay, in a beautiful city – thank you! We stayed with our 4 children and the place was absolutely perfect, and the host went out of her way to help us out too, so thank you!

  • Sultan from Saudi Arabia – 6 April 2024 (9/10)

    Great home

  • Krzysztof from Poland – 4 February 2024 (9/10)

Great location! Also the apartment looks incredible! True recommend!

What could be improved: There was a coffee machine but unfortunately in the apartment we couldn’t find a coffee or tea. It was annoying as we discovered it on the morning. Don’t get me wrong – the place is amazing! And worth to stay in. But it was one little detail that was missing. Also once you are there you need to pay 200€ deposit. It was the very first time I had to pay the deposit. Once you check out you need to wait about the week for the pre authorization cancellation.

  • Mairení from United States – 31 December 2023 (9/10)

I thought the area was nice. It was by the river and the bridge, so it was easy to navigate where to go. There were food spots near by also, so I thought it was a stay worth having.

What could be improved: Nothing really, everything worked okay. I do wish I could have stayed longer to utilize all the appliances the apartment offered. Staying only one night was worth it, but I wish I could’ve stayed longer.
