You know what really caught me off guard about Vicolo Circolo @Castelvecchio? The name actually tells you everything you need to know – it’s tucked away on this narrow little street (vicolo literally means “alley” in Italian) that most tourists completely miss, even though you’re basically a two-minute walk from one of Verona’s most famous landmarks. I mean, Castelvecchio is right there in the name, and honestly, when I first stumbled upon this place, I thought I’d taken a wrong turn because the entrance is so understated you could walk past it three times.

The building itself has this really interesting character – it’s clearly been renovated with a lot of thought, but they kept all the good stuff from the original structure. The rooms have these gorgeous exposed beams and the kind of thick walls that actually keep street noise out (which is a blessing because even though it’s a quiet street, Italian voices carry, especially during aperitivo hour). What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with authentic Italian design – the bathrooms are properly updated with great water pressure, but you’ve still got those beautiful old terracotta floors that feel cool under your feet in summer. The 4-star rating is spot on; it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but everything works perfectly and the attention to detail is obvious.

Here’s the thing that made me realize this place gets it right – the staff actually knows the neighborhood. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to get the best coffee in the morning (there’s this tiny bar around the corner that opens at 6 AM), which osteria serves the most authentic risotto all’Amarone, and honestly, they gave me directions using local landmarks instead of just pointing toward the main squares. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you experience that kind of genuine hospitality. You’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters – the Arena, Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s house if you’re into that sort of thing – but far enough from the crowds that you can actually sleep at night. I stayed there during late spring when Verona gets pretty busy, and returning to this quiet little corner felt like having a secret hideaway. The breakfast setup is simple but done well, with proper Italian coffee and fresh pastries from a local bakery rather than those sad hotel croissants you get at chain places. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels authentically Veronese without sacrificing comfort, this is exactly what you want.

  This is the perfect apartment for visiting Verona – right next to the Castelveccio so its location is fantastic. Easy to have dinner next to the Arena and people watch and then wander home. A huge supermarket is 5 mins walk – and its an easy 15 min walk from the train station. We loved sitting on the balcony for our breakfast. We had some rain in Verona and the apartment was great to retreat to and watch the storm pass by from large windows in the living room. The key handover was seemless. We ate out and had drinks at the local cafe Osteria Marconi which was fantastic and had really welcoming staff. We flew back to NZ from Milan from here using the 7:30 train – for a 1pm flight – meaning we didn't need to shift accommodation for our last night – super easy!

  The apartment is BEAUTIFUL, big and modern and the location is excellent. I really enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace and the kitchen and bathroom had everything you may need. The communication with the host was pleasant.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't like that it is expected from the guests to throw out the trash since we do not know where are the trash cans or the way trash is supposed to be divided in Verona.

  Fantastic location, easy walking distance to all of the historical places of interest . Great bars and restaurants nearby. Situated in a nice residential area. Close to a Supermarket. Fairly comfortable and air conditioned modern apartment, with two balconies. Well equipped kitchen, and great amenities including a washing machine. Comfortable bed, nice and clean throughout. The staff were really friendly and helpful during our stay. Particularly Francesca, who sent us some great recommendations for local restaurants and places of interest.
  
  What could be improved: There was nothing to dislike about the apartment. It is up two flights of stairs that may be an issue to some people.
