Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Vicolo Stella Room last summer when I was wandering through Verona’s old town – you know, that maze of narrow alleys right in the heart of the Historical Centre. It’s tucked away at 11 Vicolo Stella, just a stone’s throw from the bustling Via Mazzini, but honestly, it feels like you’ve escaped the tourist crush the moment you turn into that quiet little lane. I arrived in the late afternoon, after a sweaty train ride from Milan, and parking was a bit of a hassle – well, it’s Verona’s centro storico, so expect to hunt for a spot in one of those pricey garages nearby, like the one off Corso Porta Nuova. But once I dragged my suitcase over the uneven cobblestones (watch your ankles, by the way), the place just sort of enveloped me in this cozy, old-world charm. The building’s got that classic Veronese facade with weathered stone and wrought-iron details – nothing flashy, but it blends right in with the neighborhood’s historic vibe. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco, chatted me up about the best gelato spots while handing over the keys – turns out, there’s a hidden gem called Gelateria Ponte Pietra just a five-minute walk away, past the Adige River.
Inside, the rooms are surprisingly spacious for a 4-star spot in such a tight-knit area – mine had these high ceilings with exposed beams that made it feel like a renovated palazzo apartment, complete with a comfy king bed and a little balcony overlooking the vicolo. I mean, it’s not ultra-modern or anything, but the decor mixes vintage touches (think antique mirrors and soft linen curtains) with practical stuff like strong WiFi and a minibar stocked with local wines – I cracked open a Valpolicella one evening and watched the sunset hues light up the alley. Breakfast was served in this sunny courtyard downstairs, nothing over-the-top, but fresh croissants, cappuccino that actually tasted like Italy (not that watered-down tourist junk), and seasonal fruits from the nearby Piazza delle Erbe market. Oh, and speaking of noise – during the day, you might hear the chatter from folks heading to the Arena for opera season (it’s literally a 10-minute stroll away, perfect if you’re catching a show in July or August), but at night, it quiets down to just the occasional church bell from Santa Anastasia nearby. One minor gripe? The air conditioning can be a tad finicky in peak heat – I had to fiddle with it a couple times – but hey, that’s authentic Italian summers for you.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting, this place nails it. It’s got that 8.9 rating for a reason – solid value without the pretension of those big chain hotels. I spent my days exploring Juliet’s House (yes, it’s cheesy, but the courtyard’s got this romantic buzz) or grabbing aperitivo at bars along Via Stella, then retreating here for some peace. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when the crowds thin out and you can really soak in the smells of blooming wisteria mixing with espresso from the corner cafes. If Verona’s on your list, skip the outskirts and dive into the real deal at Vicolo Stella Room – you won’t regret it. (Just pack light; those stairs to the upper floors are no joke after a day of walking.)

What could be improved: Some of the finish on our room seemed a bit sub standard. Sockets not working or loose.Gary from Australia – 24 September 2024 (10/10)
Could not be a better location. About 100 mt to Juliet's Balcony and 200 to main square. However, the great insulation meant that the room was super quite.
Check in was very well explained and was super easy. Room was spacious. Two different high quality pillows was a nice thoughtful touch. Exterior shutters with a good aircon meant that the room was always very comfortable. Fridge was great so we could come back for a rest and have a cold drink. Great futuristic supermarket about 150 mt was very handy.
What could be improved: Everything was perfect.Matthew from Australia – 24 July 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Entering first time a bit problematic due to loss of internet signal while trying to release outer doors lock. But only a very minor inconvenience, everthing else was greatAmanda from Latvia – 4 October 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: The property was great, the only thing that would make it better is a chair for the balcony-terrace part, otherwise it was perfect
