Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to We Home – Maison San Zeno on a drizzly afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets get all slick and shiny, and the Adige River right across Rigaste San Zeno swells up a bit, making everything feel extra romantic. It’s tucked into this quiet corner of the San Zeno neighborhood, which honestly feels like the real Verona, away from the tourist crush around Juliet’s balcony downtown. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Basilica di San Zeno – that stunning old church with its rose window that glows at sunset – and it’s a leisurely 10-minute stroll over the Ponte Scaligero to Castelvecchio, where you can wander those medieval walls without dodging selfie sticks. Parking was a bit of a hassle, though; the streets are narrow and spots fill up fast, especially on market days when locals flock to the nearby Piazza San Zeno for fresh produce and those irresistible piadine sandwiches. But once I checked in – super straightforward, with a friendly host who chatted about the best gelato spots (try Gelateria Ponte Pietra, just a bridge away) – I felt like I’d stumbled into a cozy hideaway. The building itself has that classic Veronese charm, with stone facades and wooden shutters that creak a little in the wind, and there’s this faint scent of blooming jasmine from the courtyard that hits you as soon as you step inside.
The rooms? Well, they’re not fancy – it’s a solid 3-star spot with a 7.3 rating that sort of matches what you get: clean, functional, and surprisingly spacious for the price. My suite had these high ceilings and a little balcony overlooking the river, where I could hear the gentle lap of water against the banks in the evenings – peaceful, you know? – though mornings brought the distant chime of San Zeno’s bells, which was actually kind of magical, like waking up in a storybook. The bed was comfy enough, with crisp linens that smelled freshly laundered, but don’t expect luxury; the bathroom’s on the basic side, with a shower that takes a minute to warm up, and Wi-Fi can be spotty if everyone’s streaming at once. I appreciated the kitchenette – stocked with basics like coffee and a mini-fridge – which saved me a ton on breakfasts; I’d grab bread from the bakery on Via Porta San Zeno and whip up something simple. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet after dark, even with the occasional scooter buzzing by, but if you’re a light sleeper, earplugs might help during peak season in summer when the neighborhood livens up with festivals.
All in all, if you’re looking to experience Verona like a local without breaking the bank, this place is a gem – especially for couples or solo travelers who want that authentic vibe. It’s not perfect (the decor’s a tad dated, and check-out’s at 10 a.m., which felt rushed), but it puts you right in the heart of San Zeno’s laid-back energy, close enough to the Arena for opera nights but far from the chaos. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat – just time it for shoulder season to avoid the crowds and snag that river view.

Very spacious, clean apartment, pictures were accurate. Located in a lovely calm neighbourhood by the river, restaurants and grocery store close by, and comfortable walking distance to the old town. Check-in process was easy, and instructions clear, timely and easy to follow.

Easy walk to the town center of about 20-25 minutes
Burcak from Italy – 13 July 2024 (8/10)
The location is OK, only 10 minutes walk to Arena.
What could be improved: The entrance to apartment and to house is bit complicated. The application worls well but only if the modem is plugged in the house. So if the app is not working, the operator on the phone will help you kindly for manual entrance.Juanita from Netherlands – 13 July 2024 (6/10)
