Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Welcome Verona Rooms & Apartments almost by accident last spring, right when the cherry blossoms were popping along the Adige River – that time of year when Verona feels like it’s straight out of a Shakespeare play, but without the tourist hordes yet. It’s tucked into Piazza Renato Simoni, this quiet little square that’s just a stone’s throw from the Porta Nuova train station, honestly making it a breeze if you’re arriving by rail from Milan or Venice. I mean, I hopped off the train, dragged my suitcase down Corso Porta Nuova – you know, that bustling street with all the gelato spots and vintage shops – and there I was, in under 10 minutes. No taxis needed, which is a godsend because parking in Verona’s historical center? Forget about it; it’s all narrow alleys and permit zones that can turn a quick errand into a headache. The building itself has that classic Italian charm – think buttery yellow facade with wrought-iron balconies – and check-in was super laid-back. The owner, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think? Well, someone equally chatty), handed over the keys with a map scribbled with his favorite osterias nearby, like that hidden one on Via Sottoriva for the best risotto all’amarone.
What really sold me on the place – and why it’s got that insane 9.9 rating – is how it feels like your own little pied-à-terre in the heart of things, not some sterile hotel chain. I stayed in one of their apartments, which came with a full kitchenette (stocked with basics like olive oil and pasta, actually – a nice touch for whipping up a quick meal after a day of wandering). The rooms are spotless, with these high ceilings and exposed beams that give off that authentic Verona vibe, and the beds? Oh man, plush and comfy enough to sink into after trekking to the Arena for an opera night. Sensory-wise, there’s this faint scent of fresh lavender from the linens, and in the mornings, you’d hear the distant chime of church bells from San Zeno Basilica, which is just a 15-minute stroll away across the river. It’s not dead silent, mind you – you’re in the city center, so there’s the occasional scooter buzzing by or laughter from the piazza below, especially on weekends when locals gather for aperitivo. But honestly, it added to the charm; felt alive, not isolated. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be a tad spotty in the back rooms during peak hours, but hey, that’s Italy – forces you to unplug and people-watch from your balcony instead.
All in all, if you’re plotting a trip to Verona – say, for the summer festivals or just to soak in the romance of Juliet’s balcony (which is a quick 20-minute walk via the Ponte Pietra, by the way) – this spot’s a winner. It’s got that 4-star polish without the pretension, perfect for couples or even families who want space to spread out. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there a bit, you know? Not just passed through. Book early, though; it fills up fast in high season, and trust me, you don’t want to miss out on those sunset views over the rooftops.

Great apartment in a very practical location, close to Verona Porta Nuova railway station and just a few steps way from the inner city. Clean, good wifi, tables to work and a cute balcony. Daniel the owner, welcomed me personally, we had a good chat and he has a lot of great recos for the city if you happen to be there the first time.

This is a fantastic air conditioned apartment in Verona. Close to the station and just a short stroll into the old city centre. It has been very thoughtfully fitted out with the guests comfort in mind. Newly renovated throughout, you get a well stocked kitchen and modern bathroom. Lots of coffee pods and an assortment of teas was welcome. We just bought milk. Lift access to the third floor was a big plus, as was the cute outdoor terrace. Daniel the host met us and gave us great recommendations for food and sights in Verona. He is a most responsive and charming person to deal with.
What could be improved: Bedside reading lamps would be our only suggestion. Otherwise perfect.Milena from Netherlands – 30 September 2024 (10/10)
