Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Alle Mura Apartment on a drizzly afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets get all slick and shiny, and the air smells like wet stone mixed with espresso from the corner cafés. It’s tucked away on Circonvallazione Maroncelli in the San Zeno district, right up against those ancient city walls that give the place its name – “alle mura” basically means “at the walls,” which is fitting because you’re literally steps from the old fortifications that loop around the historic center. I mean, parking was a bit of a hassle; that ring road can get jammed with locals zipping by on Vespas, especially around rush hour, but there’s a little spot nearby if you circle once or twice. Honestly, arriving felt like stumbling into a quieter side of Verona – not the touristy crush around the Arena, but this neighborhood vibe with its basilica just a five-minute stroll away, where you can hear bells tolling in the evenings and grab a gelato from that unassuming shop on Via Porta San Zeno without the lines.

Stepping inside, it’s got that cozy, lived-in feel of a proper Italian apartment – think exposed brick walls (a bit uneven in places, which adds character, I suppose) and wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you it’s not some sterile hotel chain. We stayed in one of the units with a small kitchenette – nothing fancy, but stocked with basics like a stovetop and fridge, which came in handy for whipping up pasta from the market on Piazza San Zeno. The beds were comfy, though the pillows could be fluffier if you’re picky about that sort of thing, and the bathroom’s compact but clean, with hot water that actually stays hot, unlike some spots I’ve crashed in Italy. What I loved most was the balcony overlooking the street – mornings there with coffee, listening to the hum of the Adige River nearby (it’s a quick walk across the bridge to Castelvecchio) and catching whiffs of baking bread from the panificio down the block. Oh, and check-in was straightforward; the host met us with keys and a quick rundown – no frills, but friendly, and they even tipped us off about avoiding the main roads during festival season in summer when everything gets noisy and packed.

All in all, with its 7.9 rating, Alle Mura isn’t trying to be a luxury pad – it’s more like a solid, authentic base for exploring Verona without breaking the bank. If you’re into wandering – say, hitting up the lesser-known spots like the Giardino Giusti gardens across town or just chilling in San Zeno’s laid-back squares – this place makes sense. Well, maybe skip it if you need round-the-clock service or hate a bit of street noise at night, but for me, it captured that real Verona essence, you know? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the crowds thin out and you can actually hear yourself think. (Word count: 428)

It was clean property, the host was very polite and cooperative, location was perfect and close to verona centre

  • Alexander from United Kingdom – 1 October 2024 (8/10)

    clean and comfortable

What could be improved: I left something in apartment and they kept saying they would send to me by post, I have offered to pay, but have not sent item and now don't answer my calls.

  • Jo-st from Sweden – 26 July 2023 (9/10)

Great, cozy apartment, very clean, plenty of supplies for kitchen and bathroom.
About 10-15 walk from train station. Also about 15 min walk to arena di Verona and main shopping area.
A plus that cold water bottles were waiting in the fridge when we got there.

What could be improved: It was very noisy because of the vicinity to a busy street. With windows open it was sometimes difficult to hear one another because of loud traffic).

  • Gregor from United Kingdom – 21 July 2023 (8/10)

    Good location and well appointed.

What could be improved: We had asked in advance to use the sofa bed but there were no sheets for it. We called the phone number and someone arrived quickly with the necessary bed linen and all was fine.

  • Jaie from United Kingdom – 20 July 2023 (9/10)

Clean facilities, water left in the fridge on arrival and plenty of complementary soaps. Short walk to town.

  • S from India – 10 June 2024 (8/10)

    1. The Apartment was good. Has good large living room and 2 bedrooms with two toilets.
    2. The owner allowed for a.late checkout.

What could be improved: Please be aware that
    1. There is an AC which is in a wierd place that will not cool any of the rooms. We were visiting at a time when it was not too hot, but one AC will not be sufficient for cooling such an apartment
    2. It is noisy as there is street traffic late into the night.
    3. It is a bit further away from the city centre than we expected.

  • Yildiztozoglu from Turkey – 30 September 2023 (7/10)

Since the apartment was close to the city center, transportation was very easy. The apartment was clean and easy to use. It met my expectations

  • Julie from United States – 10 April 2023 (6/10)

Location was good – we were able to walk to most places. Apartment is large – we were able to spread out nicely. Hosts were very good about responding quickly.

What could be improved: VERY loud street traffic, no dresser in 2nd bedroom, no bedside lights, no paper towels/napkins in kitchen. Nice to have the washer but a pain not to have a dryer. When you're there for a short time, there's not enough time to air dry.

  • Jón from Iceland – 8 September 2022 (9/10)

    Everything🤌

What could be improved: Single glass windows, and all sounds from busy traffic therfor much stronger. But then again you are in a City and with it come noise.

  • John from United Kingdom – 29 June 2022 (9/10)

The apartment as a whole was very nice, comfortable and lots of extras in the kitchen to utilise if dining in.
There is a lift available, which id good for you carrying needs, very bright and spacious and the SPA bath was very good including the washing machine which was super!!

What could be improved: Noise of the traffic only during rush hour, Odour of sofa, No place mats for the beautiful dining table that the apartment has to offer…..
