Alle Porte Del Centro Overview
You know, when I first rolled into Verona last spring, I was a bit skeptical about staying at Alle Porte Del Centro—it’s tucked away on Via Achille Sacchi, this quiet side street in the Borgo Trento neighborhood, which isn’t smack in the middle of the tourist frenzy like around Piazza delle Erbe, but honestly, that’s what made it feel like a smart find. I mean, Verona can get overwhelmingly crowded during opera season at the Arena, with all those tour groups clogging up the bridges over the Adige River, but here you’re just a pleasant 15-minute stroll from the historic center—cross Ponte della Vittoria and you’re basically at the gates of the old town. I parked my rental car right out front (though spots can be tight in the evenings, so arrive early if you’re driving), and the check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly guy named Marco, chatted with me about the best gelato spot nearby on Via IV Novembre—Gelateria Pampanin, if you’re wondering, their pistachio is unreal. The building itself has that classic Italian charm, with worn stone steps leading up to rooms that overlook a little courtyard—nothing fancy, but it smells like fresh laundry and espresso in the mornings, which beats any sterile chain hotel vibe.
What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that cozy, lived-in feel with practical perks that make traveling easier—especially if you’re not into the overpriced spots closer to Juliet’s balcony (which, let’s be real, is more kitsch than romance these days). My room was on the smaller side, typical for a 3-star in Italy, with a firm bed that actually helped my back after a day wandering the cobblestone streets, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that feels luxurious without trying too hard. Breakfast is included, and it’s solid—fresh croissants, yogurt, and cappuccinos made to order, though if you’re a big eater, you might supplement with a panino from the bakery down on Via Mameli. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful at night; you might hear the occasional scooter zipping by or church bells from San Giorgio in Braida, but it fades into that soothing Verona hum. Well, except during the Verona Marathon in February—things get lively then, so book ahead if you’re into that energy. I spent my evenings on the tiny balcony, sipping a Valpolicella from the mini-fridge (they stock local wines, a nice touch), watching locals walk their dogs—feels more authentic than the packed cafes in the center.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s got an 8.5 rating for a reason—great value, super clean, and staff who’ll point you to hidden gems like the Giardino Giusti gardens just a short bus ride away—I’d say Alle Porte Del Centro is worth it. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, and there’s no gym or anything, but for exploring Verona without the hassle, it became my little home base. You walk out the door, turn left toward the river, and suddenly you’re immersed in that romantic Italian city life—without breaking the bank. Trust me, after a few trips to the Veneto region, this one’s a keeper.

siamo stati molto bene, ci siamo sentiti a casa!
Stefano from Italy – 14 November 2024 (9/10)

Consigliamo l'esperienza!Daniela from Italy – 12 June 2024 (9/10)
Bastantes electrodomésticos y check in check out autónomo muy cómodo.

Terrific host, very friendly and supportive. Highly recommend and will come back
What could be improved: A bit away from the center, which was not a problem unless you wanted to attend some cultural events that end after midnightClaudia from Belgium – 19 May 2023 (7/10)
I really liked the location of the apartment. The street is very quiet, but it's very easy to reach the city centre either by foot or by bus.
What could be improved: Being a basement flat, it was relatively cool and dark. Normally this wouldn't be important, as you enjoy the city and are out and about anyway, but this week there was pretty much only rain and it was also quite fresh outside, which is why the accommodation didn't seem particularly cosy.Anonymous from Poland – 21 April 2023 (9/10)
private bathroom, kitchen
What could be improved: broken bedLuis from Luxembourg – 11 April 2023 (9/10)
Th studio had everything I needed. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped.
What could be improved: A bit more of natural light would be awesome.Adrianus from United Kingdom – 30 March 2023 (6/10)
What could be improved: The matras was like a sinkhole and the car parking is 3 streets away if you are lucky to find a spot to park. The apparment is nice and the owner also. Fix the bed and I would give a 8 out of 10.

Its a cozy space with almost everything you need. The neighborhood is pleasant and quiet with a couple of restaurants within easy walking distance. The host did everything she could to meet our needs, agreeing to a later check in because our train was delayed . There was also a welcome pack of essentials, milk, coffee and cake etc which was very helpful. Overall I would say it was good value
What could be improved: In the recent very hot weather the space was a bit airless. The ceiling fan only works with the light on so not effective at night.
Also despite the fact that the host bought around a Wi-Fi cube we were unable to access the internet.
Without wishing to be rude, the accommodation would be more comfortable with less ‘ clutter’ but maybe that’s just personal taste
