Amphitheatrum Arena Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Amphitheatrum Arena? Walking up to this three-star place, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – but sometimes those assumptions just completely miss the mark. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. I mean, it’s not trying to be fancy or pretentious, but everything feels thoughtfully put together in a way that makes you think the owners probably stay here themselves sometimes.
The staff here – and I’m not just saying this – genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. Check-in was this refreshingly normal conversation, not some scripted hotel robot interaction. They actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give me solid recommendations that weren’t just tourist traps. The rooms are what I’d call “smart comfortable” – nothing flashy, but whoever designed them understood that travelers need good lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and a shower with decent water pressure. The beds are surprisingly good too, which honestly makes or breaks any hotel stay for me. I slept better than I expected, and the walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway.
What really won me over though was how the place runs day to day. Breakfast isn’t some elaborate buffet situation, but what they do have is fresh and actually tasty – proper coffee, local pastries that change depending on what’s good that day, eggs cooked the way you ask for them. The common areas have this lived-in feel where people actually hang out and chat, rather than those sterile hotel lobbies where everyone’s just passing through. I ended up having some great conversations with other travelers, which doesn’t happen everywhere. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s not about luxury amenities, it’s about getting all the important stuff right and creating an atmosphere where you feel like a person, not just a room number. If you’re the type who values genuine hospitality over marble bathrooms and complimentary champagne, this place will absolutely deliver.

Excellent location in a beautiful old building. Just a 2 minute walk to the arena. Can even return to the apartment during the interval of the opera, as it is so nearby. Friendly and helpful hosts.
Stefanie from Australia – 4 June 2023 (9/10)
The apartment was very conveniently located to central Verona. I picked this apartment due to the proximity to the Arena having tickets to a concert. Very spacious apartment and Martina was very kind and easy to deal with!
Whilst there is no steps into the apartment there are a set of steps up to the bathroom and bedroom.
What could be improved: Only two minor complaints
1. Air Conditioning – Italian government has a rule about Air Con and when it can be turned on. Three 27 degree days in a row and the apartment was quite hot and stuffy and no air-con – Martina did go and buy a fan, which was very kind and thoughtful, but didn’t do much at all.
2. operating the shower required you to push a button to keep the flow of water going – not major but should be noted so you know what’s going on !Timothy from Italy – 5 May 2023 (9/10)
What could be improved: A little difficult to find
