Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Appartamento Stella during a spontaneous trip to Verona last spring, and honestly, it felt like I’d hit the jackpot without even trying. Tucked away on Via Stella – this narrow little street that’s just off the beaten path from the bustling Via Mazzini shopping drag – it’s in the heart of the historical center, but not smack in the middle of the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute stroll from the Arena di Verona, where they do those epic opera nights in summer (pro tip: book tickets early if you’re there in July, it gets packed), and even closer to the hidden gems like the old Ponte Pietra bridge over the Adige River. Arriving by train from Milan, I dragged my suitcase over the cobblestones – a bit of a workout, but worth it – and the check-in was a breeze; the owner met me at the door with a warm smile and a quick rundown in broken English, handing over keys to what felt more like a cozy local’s apartment than some sterile hotel room. No front desk drama, just a code for the gate and you’re in. Oh, and parking? Forget about it right outside – the historical center’s a nightmare for cars, so I left mine at the public lot near Porta Nuova station and walked the rest. Saved me a headache, actually.
What really sold me on the place was how it captured that authentic Verona vibe without trying too hard. The apartment’s on the second floor (stairs only, so pack light if you’ve got bad knees – I learned that the hard way), and stepping inside, you’re greeted by these high ceilings with exposed wooden beams that smell faintly of aged oak, mixed with whatever’s baking from the panetteria downstairs. It’s got that lived-in charm: a small kitchenette where I whipped up espresso every morning using the provided machine (the pods are Illy, which is a nice touch), and a bedroom with linens that actually feel soft, not like those starched hotel ones. The windows overlook a quiet courtyard – birds chirping at dawn, the occasional Vespa buzzing by on Via Stella – and it’s surprisingly peaceful at night, even though you’re steps from Piazza delle Erbe, where the market vendors set up their stalls with fresh cheeses and prosciutto that you can smell wafting up around lunchtime. I spent one evening just lounging on the balcony with a bottle of Valpolicella from the enoteca around the corner on Via Cappello (yep, that’s the street with Juliet’s House, but skip the crowds and head there early morning). Well, sort of a balcony – it’s more like a wide ledge, but hey, it works for people-watching. The Wi-Fi’s solid for streaming, and there’s air conditioning that hums quietly, which was a lifesaver during that unexpected heatwave. Minor gripe? The bathroom’s compact, like most old buildings here, so if you’re tall, watch your head on the slanted ceiling.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that lets you live like a Veronese for a few days – wandering to the Duomo for gelato or catching a sunset over the river – Appartamento Stella is it. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but that’s what makes it special; you feel immersed, not just visiting. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the off-season like October when the streets are quieter and the autumn leaves turn the whole city golden. Trust me, for a 4-star setup with a 9 rating that actually lives up to the hype, it’s a steal – just remember to explore those side alleys off Via Stella for the best hidden trattorias.

The location was perfect for walking around. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean. 3 AC units throughout that made the transition from the US to Italy exceptionally more comfortable, Sara was also extremely helpful and responded quickly!

Perfect!
Excelent location!
The only negative thing we point out is the lack of hygiene products.Francesca from United Kingdom – 28 October 2024 (9/10)
The appartment was so centrally located, literally a stones throw from Juliette’s balcony & the Verona Arena.
The apartment itself was very spacious with a fully equipped kitchen, lounge, two bathrooms and two bedrooms! It was perfect for our weekend away and would definitely stay again!

The layout is lovely, and the location is perfect.

Amazing central location. The streets are pedestrianised in the evening so no traffic noise whatsoever. Building has a lift. Air conditioning in every room.

Great central location surrounded by bars, restaurants, stunning architecture and Italian chic. Lively, well appointed modern apartment in a traditional Veronese building. Good comes with Sara the owner.

The apartment is exceptionally lovely. We loved sipping our morning espresso while looking out the little balconies to the street below. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The small attic room was perfect for our son who loved the view out his window.
Via Stella itself had cute cafes, shops, and an amazing pastry place (Flego) we visited daily. It was not crowded though like some of the nearby streets even though it was only 2 blocks from Piazza Della Erbe, around the corner from Juliet’s balcony, and up the road from the coliseum.
The apartment was an easy walk to everything we wanted to see and do. Even the train station was only 1 mile away.
There was a slight problem with the electricity one day and the property host, bless her, drove all the way in to help us.
What could be improved: The bathroom has a low ceiling. it was fine for us but would have been a problem for anyone over 6ft.Tiu85 from Switzerland – 30 May 2023 (1/10)
Being in the city centre ( of course an issue if you have issues with carrying heavy bag. The apartment is situated in the part of the restricted car zone of Verona. This means that you can not access the apartment with your car most of the time. The nearest parking garage is 950m away)
What could be improved: Extremely dirty Apartment. Dust everywhere, especially on all the wooden surfaces. The mold on the walls from humidity was all over the wall next to the bed ( seen on the pictures) and in the tiles of the bathroom, the furniture was completely worn out ( you can See it on one of the furnitures i added on the pictures). The worst issue was the bed bugs in the bedroom. We woke up during the night by all those bites. Two of those bites at the legs of my son got even infected in the following days (before we see any nonsense comments by the owner: me and my wife are both doctors and sadly know a lot about those insect bites, how they look like and what they can cause in the following days). There was absolutely no understanding from the owner, when I told her the next day. The only think she asked was, when I am giving back the keys, so she can prepare the apartment for the next guests. We were baffled by that behaviour from an apartment owner of a midrange costly booking ( paid around 210 Euro for a night). We left the apartment the next morning to continue our stay in Verona at a Hotel, so that our child can sleep through the next days in humane condition.Fabienne from Switzerland – 3 April 2025 (9/10)
Sehr zentral und gut gelegen. Mitten in der Einkaufsmeile.
