Arena Sweet Home in Verona Overview
You know what struck me first about Arena Sweet Home in Verona? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it really does feel like staying at someone’s well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel. I mean, with a 9.1 rating, I had high expectations, but this little 3-star gem honestly exceeded them in ways that surprised me.
The thing about Verona is that everyone talks about the Romeo and Juliet stuff, but what you really want is a place where you can duck in after a long day of wandering those medieval streets without feeling like you’re in some sterile chain hotel. That’s exactly what this place delivers. The owners – and you can tell there are actual owners who care about this property – have managed to create something that feels authentic without being stuffy. The common areas have this lived-in warmth that’s hard to fake, with books scattered around (some in English, thank goodness) and local art that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel supply catalog. Actually, I ended up chatting with another guest over coffee one morning about whether the paintings were done by someone local – turns out they were, and there’s a whole story behind the artist that the staff loves sharing if you ask.
What really won me over, though, was how they handle the small stuff that bigger hotels mess up. Check-in was refreshingly personal – no rushing you through a script, just genuine recommendations about where to grab dinner or which gelato place locals actually go to (spoiler: it’s not the one next to Juliet’s balcony). The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable without trying too hard to be fancy, which honestly works better than you’d think. I slept really well, which isn’t always a given in these older Italian buildings – sometimes you get character along with paper-thin walls and mysterious nighttime sounds. Here, you get the charm without the noise complaints. The Wi-Fi actually works consistently too, which – let’s be real – matters when you’re trying to figure out train schedules or send photos home. It’s those practical touches that make you realize someone’s really thought through what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos online.

For the money, the location is amazing! You can easily walk to all the beautiful attractions Verona has to offer and are just down the road from the arena. The bed was comfortable and for more of a budget holiday, it had everything we needed. The owner was very responsive to our issues and got them fixed quickly. Would definitely stay here again
What could be improved: There were a couple of issues such as the shower not draining but these were amended very quickly. It would be helpful for there to be some sort of guide to the temperature control as the radiators made it quite warm. But these were all little thingsSimone from Italy – 17 January 2025 (10/10)
Posizione e dimensione.
What could be improved: Nulla.Harrison from New Zealand – 5 October 2024 (7/10)
Good location, easy check in and out. All amenities there and welcome basket on arrival was a nice touch.
What could be improved: Noise was main issue. Constant construction and renovations next door which wasn’t mentioned. Workers voices, power tools, and lots of noise right outside window from early morning all day. Also lots of noise from children in the building at nights. Out of their control but would’ve been nice to be made aware.Sarrafan from United States – 1 October 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location
What could be improved: The apartment was located on the second floor, making it challenging to transport luggage up and down the stairs. Additionally, there was ongoing construction next door, which contributed to a considerable amount of noise during the stay.Ruzanna from Armenia – 28 August 2024 (10/10)
Location is perfect!!!! In the apartment you can find everything for a comfortable stay. Very hospitable owner!
What could be improved: Everything was very good!Cindy from Germany – 27 August 2024 (9/10)
The flat was in a very convenient, central location. The air conditioning was great! Everything was clean. Loved that the flat has a washing machine/dryer.
What could be improved: The kitchen needs a few more supplies eg salad bowl, grater, oven dish, oven tray. Otherwise everything else was perfect. Door handle to outdoor courtyard is not secure and the bedroom window handle also comes off. Some of the lights flicker. Despite these few things I would definitely recommend this place.Maria from Ireland – 6 August 2024 (10/10)
So central to the Arena and Piazza Erbe. Very spacious and comfortable.

The location is perfect, right in the heart of Verona.
The double bed and the extensible sofa are comfortable. Clean bathroom (except for the shower).
The external shutters (window blinds) are old but efficient. The dishwasher is large and new enough.
What could be improved: The apartment is small, at 2nd floor in an old building (no elevator). A part of the builing is under hard renovation that will last for a while (expect strong noise, especially 7.30 -11 AM) – there was no warning about this.
The apartment has a wide mix of new and old (and very old) pieces of furniture and electric equipment – the general feeling was that everything was made in a hurry and cheap, trying to be functional.
Unfortunately, when we arrived we found the fridge (an old type) completely broken. Communication with the host was OK but he replaced the fridge with a new one only in the 7th day of our staying! A big minus here…
More important, when we arrived (although we announced that we come for a week and we check-in no early than 6PM, so it was enough time for cleaning), the apartment was not clean enough. A big minus for the cleaning staff: there was gross dust even in the most visible places – near the double bed, on the shelves…. No need to say about what was under the beds. Shower cleaned very superficial. Dirty oven.
In conclusion: due to the premium location, the apartment could be exceptional, but ONLY with a minor investment in some new stuff and with a professional cleaning.Kathryn from United States – 23 June 2024 (9/10)
We were in Verona to attend the opera in the colosseum. This apartment was less than 5 minutes walk. It is a great location for all the sites in the center. The AC worked well. They left a bottle of wine and snacks for us. We used the kitchen to cook simple meals. The washing machine was a big plus!
What could be improved: There is currently construction going on in the building next door. This might be bothersome if you sleep in late. It didn’t start until after 8 AM. It didn’t bother us.
