Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to Attico Ai Cedri on Via Roveggia – this quiet little street in Verona’s Borgo Roma neighborhood, just south of the city center – I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s not smack in the middle of the tourist chaos around Piazza delle Erbe or the Arena, which honestly was a relief after dodging crowds all day. The building itself looks modern but understated, with these tall cedar trees (yeah, the name “Ai Cedri” means “at the cedars”) framing the entrance like they’re guarding the place. I arrived in the late afternoon during a sweltering July heatwave – Verona gets brutal in summer, folks – and the check-in was a breeze; the staff, this friendly local guy named Marco, handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best nearby gelateria on Via Centro, just a five-minute walk away. No fuss, no long lines like you’d get at those big chain hotels downtown. Parking? Well, it’s street parking mostly, and it can be a bit of a hunt in the evenings when residents come home, but there’s a secure spot they reserve if you ask ahead – saved me a headache with my rental car.
What really won me over, though, was the room – I mean, it’s called Attico for a reason, right? Mine was this spacious penthouse-style suite with a private terrace overlooking those cedars and bits of the Adige River in the distance. The air smelled fresh, like pine mixed with that faint Italian city scent of espresso from the cafe downstairs. Beds are comfy as heck, with those crisp white linens that feel like they’ve been ironed by angels, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you linger way too long. Breakfast (included, by the way) is served on the rooftop – nothing fancy, but fresh croissants, local cheeses, and cappuccinos that hit the spot while you watch the morning light hit the Verona skyline. It’s not super central, so if you’re all about walking everywhere, you’ll need the bus from the stop on Via Scuderlando (runs every 10 minutes to the center, super cheap). Noise-wise, it’s peaceful at night – no blaring horns like near the train station – though you might hear the occasional scooter zipping by. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times in the evening, but hey, it’s Italy; sometimes you just unplug and enjoy the view.
All in all, if you’re visiting Verona for the opera season at the Arena or just to wander Juliet’s balcony without the frenzy, Attico Ai Cedri is a smart pick. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.1 rating that feels earned, not hyped – clean, thoughtful touches like fresh fruit in the room, and staff who actually know the hidden spots, like that family-run trattoria on Via Tombetta for authentic amarone risotto. You won’t feel like a nameless tourist here; it’s more like crashing at a friend’s stylish apartment. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the city’s quieter and you can really soak it in. Just pack light – those stairs to the attico level might test you after a day of sightseeing.

Plenty of space. Comfortable beds. The pizza place across the street was awesome. And also the coffee shop. Great location.
What could be improved: If staying long term, the kitchen lacked towels and small items to clean spills while preparing meals.Anisa from Albania – 3 February 2025 (9/10)
