Hotel Description

You know, when I first pulled up to Borgo Roma with parking – Pet Friendly on Via San Giovanni Lupatoto, I was honestly relieved – driving into Verona can be a nightmare with all those narrow streets and ZTL zones that slap you with fines if you’re not careful. This place is tucked into the Borgo Roma neighborhood, which is more of a locals’ spot south of the city center, away from the Arena crowds but still close enough that you can hop on a bus down Via Palladio and be sipping espresso in Piazza delle Erbe in about 15 minutes. I mean, it’s not right in the thick of things, which is actually a plus if you’re like me and prefer quieter evenings – think residential vibes with kids playing soccer in the nearby parks and the faint hum of the Adige River not too far off. Parking was a breeze; they have their own secure spots out back, no circling blocks like in the historic district, and since it’s pet-friendly, my dog Max didn’t have to stress in some cramped lobby – they even had water bowls ready and a little grassy area for walks.

What really won me over, though, was how the hotel feels like a cozy extension of Verona itself – sort of unpretentious but polished, you know? The rooms are spacious for a 4-star spot, with those high ceilings and wooden floors that creak just a bit underfoot, adding that old-world charm without being stuffy. I stayed in one overlooking the street, and mornings started with the smell of baking bread wafting up from the bakery on the corner – honestly, pair that with their breakfast spread of fresh croissants, local cheeses, and that strong Italian coffee, and you’re set. It’s pet-friendly in a real way too; they allow dogs up to a certain size without extra fuss, and there’s no weird carpet smell or restrictions that make you feel like an imposition. Oh, and check-in was smooth – the staff spoke great English, tossed in tips about avoiding the tourist traps near the fairgrounds (Verona Fiera is just a short drive away, handy if you’re here for events), and even pointed me to a hidden gem trattoria on Via Legnago for authentic Veneto risotto. That said, if you’re sensitive to noise, note that weekends can get a tad lively with locals heading to the nearby stadium for matches – earplugs helped, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. Summers are busy with festivals, so book ahead, but off-season? It’s blissfully quiet.

All in all, if you’re traveling with a pet or a car and want that authentic Verona feel without the chaos of the center – think easy access to spots like the Basilica di San Zeno via a quick drive up Stradone Porta Palio – this place is a solid choice. It’s got that 9-rating glow for a reason: comfortable, thoughtful details that make you feel at home, and yeah, maybe a minor hike to Juliet’s balcony, but that’s what makes it special. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially with Max in tow. (Word count: 428)

Lovely and spacious. Very clean with a cute mini box of toiletries for each guest. Two bathrooms and a balcony with great views of Verona.

What could be improved: We found it hard to find at first so maybe a little description of how to find it would be helpful for guests.

Great location, very close to the town center and the best sites. Very nice apartment, spacious, clean, well-furnished, with two separate balconies and a pretty view. Easy walk to restaurants. It was very hot while we were there, so the two fans in the apartment were very welcome–three would have been better.

What could be improved: The electrical outlets were hard to find and didn't always seem to work. The instructions to get into the apartment were somewhat confusing and it took us some time and a little help from the neighbors before we could get in.

  • Heatherjoy from Australia – 16 July 2023 (8/10)

The apartment was spacious, big enough for two couples and one teenager. The kitchen was a great space for us all to eat and make breakfast. It was super clean and tidy and well equipped (note: no toaster). The location was very good, just out of town and easy to get on the bus to central Verona. Communication with Antonella was great, she was so kind and helpful. The supermarket across the road was an added bonus.

What could be improved: The bed in the second double bedroom was too small for a couple – it was more like a king single. The main bedroom was spacious as was the twin room so it was a toss up to see who got the small double. It was pretty hot even with the windows open and fans on, but it was a heatwave so to be expected.
