Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Casa Magnolia on Corso Porta Nuova, right in the thick of Verona’s historical centre – you know, that bustling stretch where the old city walls sort of blend into the modern vibe, just a stone’s throw from the train station if you’re coming in from Milan or Venice. It’s at number 31, tucked between those classic Italian facades with wrought-iron balconies, and honestly, arriving in the late afternoon during opera season (think July or August) means dodging a few tourists on Vespas, but it’s not chaotic like Rome can get. I mean, parking’s a bit of a hassle – the historical zone limits cars, so you’ll probably end up in one of those nearby garages off Via Roma, which costs about 20 euros a day, but it’s worth it for the location. Walking in, the lobby hit me with this subtle floral scent – magnolias, I suppose, fitting the name – and the check-in was smooth, with a friendly staff member (a local guy named Marco, if I recall) chatting about the best gelato spot down on Piazza Bra, just a 10-minute stroll away.

What really sold me on the place was how it feels like a cozy hideaway amid Verona’s ancient buzz. The rooms aren’t massive – mine was on the second floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard with actual magnolia trees rustling in the breeze, which muffled the evening street noise from Corso Porta Nuova (though it can get a tad lively around dinner time with folks heading to the Arena for shows). Bed was comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender detergent, and the bathroom had a rain shower that was a godsend after trekking to Juliet’s House – you know, that overhyped balcony spot, but hey, it’s Verona, so you gotta do it. Breakfast in the morning was a highlight: fresh croissants, local cheeses, and espresso strong enough to wake the dead, served in this sunlit atrium where you can hear birds chirping over the faint hum of the city waking up. Oh, and there’s free Wi-Fi that’s actually reliable – I streamed a bit of Netflix without issues, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings. Well, one minor gripe: the air conditioning is a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper, especially in summer when Verona’s heat waves hit hard, but earplugs sorted that out for me.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that doesn’t feel stuffy or chain-like, Casa Magnolia nails it with an 8.5 rating that feels spot-on – it’s authentic Verona without the pretension. I’ve stayed in fancier places, but this one sticks because it’s so walkable: five minutes to the Adige River for a sunset wander, or pop over to Via Mazzini for shopping without the crowds of high season overwhelming you (go in spring or fall for quieter vibes). Honestly, for couples or solo travelers wanting that romantic Italian escape – minus the overpriced tourist traps – it’s a gem. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe even book a room with the balcony next time to people-watch over my morning coffee.

Reviews

  • Jane from United States – 18 August 2022 (9/10)

the perfect location in Verona. close to everything. parking close by and the supermarket.

What could be improved: nothing. it worked well for our family.

  • Silviya from Switzerland – 13 February 2025 (9/10)

The host was extremely helpful. Took a lot of time with us to answer all our questions and provided some recommendations for us. The location was really central and convenient whenever we needed to go. Easy access everywhere.

What could be improved: I wished perhaps to have some supplies available as we were there for 2 days and even though you have appliances i had to stock up everything to be able to use it. So maybe just a small quantity of coffee or tea would have been useful. But that is really minor.

  • Edmar from Australia – 12 January 2025 (9/10)

The location was excellent. The apartment as very nice and very well equipped (i.e, it actually had most kitchen utensils that you need). Plenty of space for the 5 of us. We were there in winter but with its courtyard it would be even nicer in summer.

What could be improved: We were told about the damage bond before hand – not a big deal but would have liked to have known to expect it.

  • Alexander from Austria – 4 January 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: It was perfect

  • Bart from United States – 14 October 2024 (8/10)

we liked the location. and the fact that it is right in the center but very quiet. the accommodations are fine, even if a little dated but everything was comfortable. the bathroom was nice, shower hot, and bedrooms were nice. the living room was comfortable.

What could be improved: little things – a soap holder in the shower, shower drain was clogged but managed to unplug it. otherwise all was good.

  • Rebecca from United States – 22 July 2024 (9/10)

Very spacious unit in a wonderful location! Finally amazing AC! We had been traveling for weeks without anything that resembled good AC and it has been hot. This was a huge relief.

What could be improved: They are very particular about making sure to check in by 7 pm. Also the only thing that would have made this place better would be a washer and dryer in the unit.

  • Henderson from United Kingdom – 18 July 2024 (8/10)

Really lovely apartment, minutes from the Main square in Verona

  • Julie from United States – 27 June 2024 (9/10)

Great space, my three teenagers each had their own bed and there’s a big living room to hang out together. The space is walking distance from the train station and super close to all of the shops and attractions. We loved our stay!

What could be improved: My only suggestion would be a better outdoor lighting setup. It’s dark navigating your way in from the main road and using multiple keys.

  • Elaine from United Kingdom – 16 June 2024 (9/10)

Location was perfect, easy walking distance to all sites in Verona. The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped.

What could be improved: My friend commented on the lack of a mirror in the smaller double bedroom.
