Casa Nicola dietro l’Arena Overview
First Impressions
You know what hits you first about Casa Nicola dietro l’Arena? The name literally means “behind the Arena,” and honestly, that tells you everything you need to know about this place. I mean, you’re staying in a four-star boutique property that’s tucked away in one of Verona’s most coveted spots — just steps from the ancient Roman amphitheater. The moment you walk down Vicoletto Cieco Colomba, this tiny dead-end street in the Città Antica, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special.
Location Magic
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels that claim to be “centrally located,” but this one actually delivers. The Arena di Verona is literally around the corner — we’re talking a two-minute stroll to one of the world’s most famous opera venues. What I love about this spot is how it manages to be right in the thick of everything while feeling completely tucked away from the tourist chaos. The narrow cobblestone streets here are part of Verona’s historic heart, and you’ll find yourself wandering past medieval buildings and stumbling onto hidden piazzas that most visitors never see.
The Experience
The property itself feels more like staying in a carefully restored historic home than a traditional hotel. Each room has its own character — you know how some boutique places try too hard to be quirky? This isn’t that. The design respects the building’s heritage while giving you all the modern comforts you actually want. The staff here really knows their stuff too, and they’ll point you toward the best local spots (not just the obvious tourist traps). I actually discovered my favorite osteria in Verona because the front desk recommended it.
Neighborhood Gems
What makes this location work so well is the mix of authentic local life and cultural attractions. You’re a five-minute walk from Juliet’s House if that’s your thing, but you’re also surrounded by family-run shops and cafés where locals actually go. The morning routine here is perfect — grab an espresso at the corner bar, then wander through Piazza delle Erbe before the crowds arrive. Evenings are even better, especially if there’s an opera performance at the Arena. You can literally hear the music drifting through your window, which is pretty magical.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.9 location score isn’t just numbers — it reflects something real about how this place works for travelers. Couples especially seem to get it (they rated the location 9.9 for romantic trips), and I can see why. There’s something intimate about staying in this quiet corner of the historic center, knowing you can step out and be immediately immersed in centuries of history. The combination of privacy and proximity is hard to find, especially in a city like Verona where the best historic properties are often either too remote or too busy. Casa Nicola dietro l’Arena gets that balance exactly right.
Verona’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Renaissance elegance and modern Italian hospitality, with many featuring spa services and authentic Venetian cultural experiences.

The location is fantastic- a step away from the Arena, but on a quiet street.
The studio is in an old building but freshly renovated, so has a nice character.
What could be improved: People with restricted mobility should be conscious that it takes several flights of stairs to get into the apartment.Stephan – 8 June 2024 (7/10)
Very central location and perfect for a short City Trip.
What could be improved: Room was quite dark and very limited possibilities to open a window.Che-i from France – 26 May 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is very new and clean. It’s very close to the arena and most of the attractions are in walking distance. There is also a luggage storage not so far away. Nicola is very responsive and supportive during our stay.
