Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Casa Sgarzarie while wandering through Verona’s old town last summer, and honestly, it felt like I’d scored a secret hideaway right in the heart of things. Tucked away at 9 Corte Sgarzarie – that’s this quiet little courtyard off Via Cappello, just steps from Juliet’s House where all the tourists flock to rub that statue for luck – it’s the kind of spot that blends right into the historic fabric without screaming “hotel.” I mean, arriving by foot was a breeze after ditching my rental car at one of those pricey garages near the Arena (parking in the centro storico is a nightmare, especially during opera season in July when the streets buzz until midnight). The entrance is unassuming, almost like knocking on a friend’s door – no grand lobby, just a warm welcome from the host who handed over keys with a quick rundown of the neighborhood. Well, sort of quick; she threw in tips about the best gelato spot on Via Mazzini, which I appreciated because, let’s face it, who doesn’t need that after hauling luggage over those uneven cobblestones?
What really won me over was the apartment itself – it’s billed as exclusive, and yeah, it lives up to that with its four-star polish but without feeling stuffy. Think exposed brick walls that whisper stories from Verona’s Roman days, a kitchenette stocked with fresh espresso pods (a godsend for early mornings when you hear the church bells from San Zeno tolling softly in the distance), and a bedroom that overlooks the corte, all leafy and shaded even in the August heat. I spent afternoons lounging on the plush sofa, windows open to catch the faint scent of baking bread from the panificio around the corner on Via Stella – it’s those little sensory hits that make you feel like a local, you know? The place is spotless, with modern touches like fast Wi-Fi and a rainfall shower that rinses away the day’s sweat from exploring Piazza delle Erbe’s market stalls. That said, if you’re not great with stairs, heads up – no elevator here, and the second-floor access might be a minor hassle with heavy bags. But noise? Surprisingly minimal; the courtyard buffers the evening chatter from nearby trattorias, though you might catch a whiff of garlic and tomato sauce wafting up, which honestly just made me hungrier for dinner at that family-run spot on Via Sottoriva.
All in all, if you’re chasing that authentic Verona vibe – think romantic walks to the Adige River at dusk or catching a show at the Arena without the hassle of taxis – Casa Sgarzarie is a gem. It’s not the cheapest option in town, but with a 9.1 rating that feels earned, it delivers on comfort and charm in a way big chains just can’t. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there for a bit, not just passed through, and I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially off-season in spring when the crowds thin out and you can snag a quieter stay. If Verona’s on your list, trust me, this place makes the trip that much sweeter.

First family trip to Verona. Very simple access arranged with all necessary information provided in advance and based in a very good location close to the christmas market, shops and restaurants. Appartment was decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch. Ample room for a family of 4 with access to international TV channels and good catering facilities. Was able to walk within metres to all facilities. Appartment was very clean and was heated for our arrival in winter which I know my husband appreciated! Tea coffee and welcome items also much appreciated.

The rooms were very well set out. All amenities were amazing, we loved the storage perfect for a girls weekend or even more days. The apartament was very well equiped and you can also cook if you don't want to go out. The locatiin was magnifique and onlu few steps away frompiazza delle erbe, arena di verona, casa di giullietta, museo maffei, castello di san pietro etc. The owners were amazing, very polite, attentive and welcoming, even only in messages. If we comw back to Verona we definitivily stay at the same place. Thank you A&G for making our trip to Verona a great one.
