Hotel Description

I remember stepping off the train at Verona Porta Nuova and deciding to walk the 15 minutes or so to Dimore Verona Argento – honestly, it’s a straight shot along Corso Porta Nuova, but you weave into the quieter streets of the Historical Centre, dodging those little Vespas that zip by like they’re late for an opera. The hotel’s tucked away on Via Antonio Cantore, right near the Adige River, which means you’re basically a stone’s throw from Castelvecchio – you know, that massive medieval fortress that feels like it jumped out of a history book. I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season (early October, when the summer crowds thin out but the air still smells like roasted chestnuts from the vendors on Ponte Pietra), and check-in was a breeze. The staff – a mix of locals who chat in that melodic Veronese accent – handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the neighborhood, no fuss, no upselling. Parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving, though; the streets are narrow and permit-only, so I ended up using a nearby garage on Via Roma for about 20 euros a night – worth it to avoid the headache.

What really got me about this place is how it blends that old-world Verona charm with just enough modern touches to make you feel pampered without it being over-the-top. It’s a 4-star spot, rated around 8.2 last I checked, and yeah, it earns it – the building’s got these exposed brick walls and wooden beams that creak a little underfoot, like it’s whispering stories from the Renaissance. My room overlooked a tiny courtyard (ask for one on the upper floors if you want to avoid street noise; Via Cantore can get a bit echoey with evening foot traffic from folks heading to dinner in Piazza Bra). The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender – I mean, after a day trekking to Juliet’s House (which is only a 10-minute stroll away, but prepare for the tourist crush), sinking into it felt like heaven. Breakfast isn’t included, but there’s a kitchenette in most rooms – I whipped up espresso from the provided pods and grabbed fresh pastries from the bakery on Via Mazzini, which is practically next door. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but hey, it’s Italy – disconnect a bit, right? And the bathrooms are sleek, with rain showers that actually have good pressure, not that dribble you sometimes get in historic conversions.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Veronese without breaking the bank (rooms start around 150 euros off-peak), Dimore Verona Argento is a solid pick. It’s not flashy like some of the big chains near the Arena, but that’s the appeal – you’re immersed in the real city, where you can hear church bells from San Zeno in the morning and wander to hidden spots like the Giardino Giusti for a quiet afternoon. I stayed three nights and left wishing for more; it’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to explore on foot, though families might find the rooms a tad snug. Well, sort of – there’s space if you pack light. Anyway, next time I’m in Verona for the opera season (book ahead for that, it gets nuts in July), this is where I’ll crash. You won’t regret it.

What could be improved: all great

  • Miriam from Ireland – 15 May 2024 (8/10)

    Amazing location. Very spacious

What could be improved: Arrived after 7 so was asked to pay a 30 euro charge in order 4 someone to meet us with key and go through apartment

  • Cheryl from United States – 9 May 2024 (9/10)

QUIET, location, bathrooms are big and size of rooms. I would stay here again due to those things.

What could be improved: The bedrooms are in bad need of black out curtains. That I’d the only problem with this apt.

  • Debbie from United Kingdom – 31 October 2023 (9/10)

We liked the property , it was a lovely clean and modern apartment. The showers were good and the bedrooms were a good size. The kitchen was ample as was the living space.

What could be improved: We would have liked another sofa rather than a TV there were only 4 of us so at times we had to sit around the table. There was supposed to be 6 of us and that would not have been as comfortable.

  • Walter from United States – 22 July 2022 (9/10)

    Great location.

  • Kirsten from United States – 9 July 2023 (7/10)

    Very good location!

What could be improved: We were 3 people and I booked this apartment specifically because it has 3 bedrooms! Well one wasn’t really a bedroom, it had a bed in the family room! That bed was so uncomfortable it was like sleeping on a hard floor with spirals poking you everywhere! The second bed was the opposite the mattress was so soft and seemed worn down so it was not really comfortable either! The third bedroom was ok with a somewhat comfortable bed and the bathroom was redone!

  • Jenny from United Kingdom – 17 June 2023 (9/10)

A large, spacious apartment in an excellent location on a very quiet street – just a few minutes walk away from the main plaza with numerous restaurants, bus stops, tourist information etc and the Arena. Appreciated having an earlier check in request accepted and being able to leave our luggage in their office until we were ready to leave. Great showers and very comfy beds. Air conditioning worked well. Thoroughly recommend.

What could be improved: Only 1 sofa which was fine for us 3 but perhaps not so good if there are 6 of you. Didn’t do any cooking but noticed there wasn’t an oven – just a hob, microwave, toaster & kettle.

  • Peter from Australia – 27 July 2022 (8/10)

Nice apartment,. very well located, clean, comfortable.

  • Iris from Belgium – 30 October 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was impeccable, perfectly located and the communication with the host was perfect. Thank you to Giulia for the welcome.

  • Maria from Austria – 5 November 2023 (9/10)

Excellent location, next to Arena Di Verona. 3 bedroom apartment with completely well furnished kitchen. Air conditioning was saving from August heat. Nicely renovated and stylish place.

What could be improved: We had some issues with the boiler and hot water, but managed to deal with it after a while.
